What a difference a year makes. Last year I spent every drop of my energy on trying to get pregnant and stay pregnant. I started the new year of 2018 with my first embryo transfer, exactly one year ago yesterday, we started with our one little boy, Gabriel Alexander. The prayers, the procedures, the poking and prodding, the surgeries, the depression and tears. All of the scripting and visualizing and bargaining with God (as if that works), but we’re human and we do it. I remember going out one day and buying blue curtains as a step of faith. It was heartbreaking when I had to go back to the store and return those blue curtains. After another try in March and disappointment and seriously in fear and devastation that I may never be able to have a baby, I got the answer to all of my prayers. This time my tears of were joy and gratitude, and hormones and exhaustion. Cautious with this news and this pregnancy I didn’t buy anything for the nursery. Terrified that I could lose her at any time, I wasn’t really relieved until I hit about 26 weeks, but the thing is there are no guarantees. I finally allowed myself to begin the nursery. Very slowly. And here I am today sitting in my daughter’s room writing words of gratitude in my journal, looking around planning the finishing touches on the nursery. She’ll be here in 40 days.
