"One time I had an idea to try and make a piece about memory - the way memories sometimes loop inside your brain, the way some memories degrade, the way some memories combine, the way some very old memories suddenly reappear. But the more I worked on it, the more I realized that every piece of music is, in some sense, a metaphor for the way memories replay inside our heads over time.
"Memory is really interesting in that it adds coloration and, if you add feedback, allows for recursion (and infinity). Your brain has memory, delay, attenuation, and feedback - it's an IIR filter! By taking in ideas, (imperfectly) remembering them, letting them mix with other ideas inside your head, sending them out later to other people in new forms and receiving feedback from those people, you are acting as a filter and adding color and structure to your corner of the universe. "
