Do you know if there's any way I could change a doll's expression? Like if I wanted to make a Venus doll look angry, etc... I'd prefer to not completely repaint but i guess the only other way of doing it is to modify their face paint somehow?

You could try to re-shape the head a little bit with heat. (hot water, heating pad) Then try to shape the head differently, hold it in place somehow, and then dunk it in cold water. However, I’m not even sure how you would get the new shape to stay like that. It will probably just revert back to normal. :/
Otherwise, you could carve into the head, sand it, and/or sculpt on it directly. Any of these methods would probably damage the default face paint on a Monster High doll, causing you to have to repaint her anyway.
You can do a repaint to change her expression. Focusing on her eyebrows and eyes would go a long way in changing the way she looks.
