today's funky frog of the day: the pinocchio frog (Litoria pinocchio)!!!!! these impressive fellows are most recognizable for their nose. they live in indonesia, and although they were first described in 2008, they were only given a scientific name in 2019! the nose increases in size when the frog is calling and decreases when they are calm.

Habitat- Indonesia
Size (Weight/Length)- 2.5 mm
Diet- Insects
Cool Facts- Despite being discovered in 2008, the northern Pinocchio frog was not scientifically classified until 2019. Being so small and so new to the scientific community, very little is known about these frogs. Their most unique feature is their elongated nose. This nose can inflate, thought to increase the frog’s vocalization during the mating season. They have been seen eating small insects but it is unknown if they eat anything other than insects. The northern Pinocchio frog is believed to be completely arboreal, making studying them an even greater challenge.

This handsome gentleman, despite what appearances may imply, is not an anteater or aardvark; this is the Pinocchio Frog (Litoria Pinocchio)!
While that long nose may look floppy in this picture, the nose of the Pinocchio Frog inflates and expands when it calls!
