Sebago Brewing Co.
Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting Doug from Sebago Brewing Co out of Portland Maine at my first Pintley event at The Vault in Downtown Boston. They had three beers to try. Short notes below:
Summer Session Ale: Light to medium bodied with great floral hops of citrus and as it warmed up it became more clean for me. The recommend food pairings on their website. They say the summer is great with barbecue, crabcakes, lobster, burgers and sharp cheddars.
Runabout Red: Medium bodied with grassy hops for sure. They say they use Columbus and Willamette hops. If you like toffee then you should try it out.
Barleywine: Aged in bourbon barrels that boast 11.1 ABV...that serious! They say it is their highest rated single batch three years running. Full bodied for sure you taste vanilla, dried fruit and bourbon. If you are a bourbon fan then this beer is a must try.
Tasting Tip: Temperature is a very important element to tasting beer. The ideal temperature for a keg is 38° F as an interesting side note. The temp will change the taste of the beer as well as your personal preference. The average individual has about 10,000 taste buds on their tongue. My taste buds will likely taste things a bit different than you, so if you taste something different than that is just fine, keep tasting and practicing. As an example, for me as the Summer Session got warmer it really balanced out and was not has hop forward as my first taste.
I am definitely going to check these guys out when I get up to Portland. Looks like they have about 16 different beers on their website.
