This week on the video blog we talk...

+ ‘Z-List Celebrity’ The Fat Jewish gets harsh backlash on the Internet for ripping off others’ jokes and posting them without attribution. In case you’re unfamiliar with the Internet sensation, his account is essentially a meme aggregator but he also has a YouTube channel, launched a White Girl Rose, has a book coming out this fall, signed with Hollywood talent agency CAA and had a deal with Comedy Central in the works.

The story blew up when writer Mary Quint lambasted Fat Jewish on Facebook but anger over him has been brewing for a long time. Instagram has also been accused of making it easy for folks to rip off others and get traction. Unlike Tumblr or Twitter, reposting with attribution isn’t that easy. Fat Jewish says aggregation is the game and has added attribution but if you’re as disgusted with his joke thievery as Patton Oswalt, follow the folks he stole from instead. It looks like 300,000 followers of his might have fled.

+ Podcast ad matchmakers Midroll launched premium podcast network Howl this week. Marc Maron (host of their marquee show) calls it ‘almost like a Netflix for podcasting.’

+ Straight Outta Compton hit theatres and was very well-received. Lots of people saw it and lots of critics liked it. But some felt like the misogny and abuse committed by the film’s subjects (stuff that would be less well-received, potentially) was simply left out. And a deplorable casting call announcement for the film circulated again. Also, security was beefed up at theaters for the film, with costs paid for by the producers.

Taylor Swift has a whole lot of power. She penned an open letter to Apple about it’s forthcoming (releasing today!) music streaming service and Apple swiftly backpedaled on the policy. This has been seen by some as a triumph for independent artists (who she says she was sticking up for) but others have accused her of being a hypocrite.

Popular podcaster Marc Maron of WTF interviewed the god damn president this week. The conversation covered everything from Obama’s childhood and how we deals with stress to the Charleston shootings and racism in America. Unfortunately, the main story became that Obama used the n-word.

AND Seinfeld is now available on Hulu and Hulu only had to fork over $160 MILLION dollars for the rights. The video streaming service also built Seinfeld’s apartment and it’s pretty rad.

What are we talking about on this week’s video blog?

The New York Times wrote a feature article about our little old Tucson. Writer Guy Trebay hit Bon, 5 Points, Bobo’s, Chaffin’s, Arizona Inn and other beloved Tucson spots. He also said that Tucson’s "loopy retail landscape skews heavily toward yoga studios, thrift shops and vape stores."

A gay couple who call themselves “high tech bears” has been occupying JebBushforPresident.com for 5 whole years. They aren’t giving the domain up now that Jeb is running and are using it to blog about LGBT issues. In this segment on cybersquatting we also talk about bud.com (a highly coveted but decidedly not for sale site that Danny’s friend owns) and wallstreet.com (which a friend to BRINK sold for a cool $1 million).

We did talk about the term transracial and Rachel Dolezal. Will she get a reality show? Supposedly she has an agent and a publicist shopping her around.

Jerry Seinfeld won’t play colleges because students are too politically correct. This Huffington Post author penned an open letter to him saying, "It isn't so much that college students are too politically correct (whatever your definition of that concept is), it's that comedy in our progressive society today can no longer afford to be crass, or provocative for the sake of being offensive. Sexist humor and racist humor can no longer exist in comedy because these concepts are based on archaic ideals that have perpetrated injustice against minorities in the past.” Danny disagreed entirely with this sentiment saying college students really have a hard time seeing the humor in controversy. Will this limit dialogue around important issues? We kind of think so.

And Kim Kardashian was on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me which caused a big ruckus amongst NPR listeners, some of which threatened to stop supporting them.

Danny also predicted that Iffy Azalea will make a comeback (that subtle shade should suggest to you that I - Caroline - disagree) but she sure is trying.
