             “YOU DON’T HAVE TO, you know.” oluwande almost regrets the words as soon as they leave his mouth. of course jim knows they don’t have to, but they wouldn’t have offered if they didn’t mean it, right? still, olu really REALLY wants jim to stay this time, to travel with them once again. he’s said goodbye once. he’s not sure he can do it again. not now, after everything. not now that he knows they care for him too.

“i know how important.... all that other stuff is to you,” he explains, continuing. “and i want you to be happy, && do.... whatever you feel you need to do, to be at peace or whatever.” he shrugs a little && looks down, folding his hands in his lap. “but honestly? i really do want you to come with us. i’d miss you a lot. i already missed you a lot.”

there’s not much a guy can do when he looks like a child, has no powers and all but one member of his family has abandoned him in a park. none of them exist as far as he can tell. only allison has been carefully written into the narrative of reginald’s perfect world. so for now, he sticks with viktor. the one person who didn’t walk away. the apartment they share is small but at least they have a roof over their heads. five has done the homeless routine for forty odd years. he’s not psyched about a repeat. “ i’m not going to school, viktor. there has to be other things teenagers can do to contribute to society beyond being stuck in a learning prison surrounded by idiotic teachers paid not nearly enough to act as child wardens. is there nowhere that i could work at? ”

Daniel blinks. Several times. He’s not exactly known for being the most centered person.

“Is this a ‘don’t get angry’ kind of stay calm or a ‘don’t panic’ kind of calm down?” Then, he adds with just a touch of dry humor, "Or maybe ‘don’t get too overjoyed’?”

                                  “ careful there, mate. i’ve put a blade in a belly for a lot less. ”    the warning comes with far too easy of a smile from blackbeard, a threat with a kind tone is still a threat.    he looks like the calm before a storm, a maelstrom carefully collected behind the mask of a man.    ed sniffs, moving to sit at the little table across from @piraet​ , he’s heard about flint, can respect a reputation as long as his own is respected in turn. ed isn’t stupid, he knows iz has a tendency to run his mouth, he’s earned the right as a first mate, disrespect to him is an insult to ed, and those do have to be amended.    “ what did he do then ? ”    -  🖤 !

             SOFT MURMURS sweep through the room at the man’s appearance in the entryway. izzy’s at the bar, && he leans across the counter to speak to jackie in a low voice, barely loud enough to be heard over the buzz of the crowd. he doesn’t recognize the man, but she does. && the name is — not unfamiliar to izzy either, but when you sail with blackbeard, he’s the only fearsome pirate captain you tend to have to worry about.

still. good company on land makes for safe passage at sea.

izzy pushes himself away from the bar && saunters over, shouldering past a couple of other people to come face to face with the taller man. “james flint?” a smirk tugs at the corner of izzy’s mouth. “izzy hands. first mate to blackbeard. let me buy you a drink.”
