Hm... I say you should have another faction, like a sort of "British Navy" that try to stop piracy. They could be against sirens as well, just using different methods to do so. Yes, I am taking inspo from Pirates of the Caribbean here.

I am not simply suggesting this because I would have this faction involved with my OC's backstory, when I eventually get around to making her...

I know Nightmare's goal is to kill all sirens but what about other pirates? Are there tales of treasure that these crew sail the seas to find? Maybe forbidden artifacts? If the "Navy" exists, what are their goals? Colonization? Trade?

What is life like for sirens and/or mer? Do they have their own society? Or are they loners by nature? Do they prey on land dwellers for any particular reason? Food or maybe to collect treasure?

Do other sea creatures exist? Like the kraken? Can I make use of it if it does? Do freak storms happen in weird spots of the ocean? Do ships go missing in certain areas? Are there ghost ships?

Anyways, I could keep going but I've asked enough questions. I looove pirates and sirens, so I could talk about this for ages. I'm not asking these questions to figure out how to write my own character or anything...

“You might not want to stand there—”

She gave a shout of surprise, stumbling over the railing. “Shit.” A hand shot out and grabbed her arm before she could tumble into the ocean below. Her heart thundered against her chest and she whirled around to see who dared assault— Her mind went silent if not for a buzz of something unknown. The thick, burning scent of charcoal and fire, rosy sweetness underneath… the rough grip of hard bone, and the sharp glow of… Her breath came out slow.

The reaper. The crimson pinpricks of light sparked a bit brighter with a flicker of excitement. He cleared his throat and pulled her up, before putting a good meter between them.

“Sorry for the intrusion, princess… I just came to find my coat. Saw you leaning over the rails like that and… well… You never know when the weather'll turn nasty, savvy?” His voice… to hear him actually speak was like hearing distant thunder for the first time in her life. A tiger's warning before the killing bite. And his teeth, so sharp, could tear through her flesh if he so wanted to. And they were close. So close.

“I… Yes. Thank you...” She lifted her chin with a quiet sense of noble dignity and narrowed her eyes. “Find your coat, and do it fast,” she ordered through a coy hiss. He smirked. She tried to stifle the pink blush dusting her face, and wished she were submerged in total darkness so he couldn't see. 

“...I know a better place to watch the waves, if that's what you're looking to do?” Her eyes sparkled at the invitation and she was so tempted to take it. So tempted…

“It's late. Asgore will need me well rested.”

“Then why aren't you in bed?”

She bit the insides of her cheeks and sent him an exasperated look. Her eyes softened and she watched as he leaned over the railing. His cotton sleeves were rolled up, exposing his forearms… So strange. For a man made of bones, he looked muscular.

Of course I deleted this scene so that Sans would be a bit more mysterious, also because it didn’t make sense for anyone to approach her, the literal princess of an empire, so ~daringly.~

Plus I wanted the two of them to have this kind of period drama style yearning hahaha, this scene didn’t accomplish that, but you can all enjoy it here.
