Oh my god. This paper I'm reading just used "her" as the nonpersonal generic pronoun to mean any person.

"As a child is exposed to her native language, her perceptual abilities become tuned to the relevant phonological contrasts in that language. " (Homebodies and army brats: Some effects of early linguistic experience and residential history on dialect categorization, Clopper&Pisoni 2004)

Instead of the usual convention of defaulting to male. Awesome. 

Though something more neutral would be preferred, I think this is cool.
