IPAD passed off in his direction as the screen illuminates an interesting article , an article that seems more than suspicious. bruce reads the introduction , eyes scan a quote that the writer insists came from bruce wayne's own lips. brow furrowing slightly as an index finger scrolls the touchscreen. ' perhaps last year i would've sounded pessimistic ... though this ? ' his eyes leave the screen as he peers down at her , ' this seems planted ' his tone unimpressed , and he shrugs shoulders. ' words used by others to weaponize ' the words wreathed in exhaustion as his gaze then shifts to the gotham skyline. the space obnoxiously filled with nothing but ads that run in a constant rotation on neon billboards as they advertise VR , sleeping medication , and ACE chemicals.

' it's easy to make me the enemy ... i don't blame them for their actions - perhaps they've been bought , sofia falcone hiding her numbers in plain sight ' bruce then tears his eyes away from the skyline , and looks back down at iPad. ' it's no secret she blames me somehow for her fathers death , the whole city knows that the riddler missed his intended target the first time , and then went to kill her father ... the rat , perhaps my death would've been enough for the riddler '

i've thought about that very idea more times than i can count , that perhaps my death would've ended it all - bruce wayne the sacrificial lamb offered up to gotham. it's no secret that gotham runs through my very veins , that i feel her heartbeat , and the tight hold that she has upon my neck. i can't escape ... they won't let me. if i could die a hundred times that wouldn't ever be enough. i am the problem , no was the problem. or am i still ? that question haunts me more than she could possibly know. her eyes are watching me , as if waiting for my mask to slip. i catch myself , and i walk away from her side.

small hands tremble in the cold, tucked up under a far too thin hoodie. he stays quiet, looks to his father for guidance. all he receives is a glare and a warning to BEHAVE. his lips stay shut, even as a stranger steps out of the car in front of them both. he knows what this is about. they've both done this time and time again. he grabs his shirt, balls his hands into fists.

for a moment, he thinks of running. thinks of pushing his malnourished body to the limit and sprinting through harsh kentucky winter to god knows where - falling victim to the elements would be a better fate than whatever his father has planned. but the knowledge that somehow - someway - his father could find him, drag him home and break his already frail bones... it keeps him rooted where he stands, peering up at the stranger with nothing but HATE. scorn for this man he does not know. still, as a wad of cash is offered to his father and a hand is extended to him, he accepts it. like the good son he is. he stares back at his father, at the man who is the root of all his rage, of his hatred, and steps into the car.

he can get chatty, but generally sticks to grunting and is quiet otherwise. he doesn't enjoy being loud or making any vocal indication that he is actually enjoying having sex

“ there is no act. ” He sighed dryly, “ I said, I am interested in you — as a subject. I’m not taking you home. ” Miss. Andreyeva was the perfect combination of guile and persistence. No matter how laconic or dismissive he was, Crane’s indifference was countered by the unfortunate convenience of their synchronized availability.

Whenever The Good Doctor had time to spare, Vinicia was free. When he found himself walking down a deserted street alone, she happened to approach from the opposite direction. It would be an audacious assumption to say she was stalking him, but he remained skeptical of her suspiciously opportune schedule. Crane suspected she viewed their exchanges as a sort of game — a concept that both irritated and thwarted him. And in an attempt to somehow brush off her play he, somehow, managed to entertain the idea of meeting again.

So there he sat, at a table draped in white cloth, foolishly attempting to lay to rest the opposing party’s theory that he “ liked ” them. He didn’t. That wasn’t to say The Doctor found her motive intriguing — a fact of which she had to have been aware. Vinicia Andreyeva had a perplexingly astute read on another’s character. If he wanted to keep the secrets that composed him, the lies that made him whole, he needed to engage her attention with caution.

( What? ' Working ' together again? ) It's the tone in her voice, that playful lilt as she says it. ( She's doing it to get under his skin, right? ) It almost makes his lip curl but he grits his teeth instead and exhales deeply. ❝ No, ❞ is all he responds with for now. He's really trying, trying to give her a chance, give her the benefit of the doubt. Normally, he wouldn't trust her as far as he could throw her ( he remembers what it was like ; she was ... fanatic, sometimes ) . But what would that say about him? ❝ I'm not exactly sentimental. ❞

He got beaten and tortured by the same people she did ; did the same terrible things. Why does he deserve a second chance any more than she does? ( Don't think too hard, Barnes. ) Bucky glances behind him at the man walking behind them quietly — his current client. ( Did a lot of bad things for a lot of different reasons ... wants a new start — why does that sound familiar? ) It's a hell of a situation he's gotten himself into now, too. This guy calls Bucky for help, all while being tracked down by the ( former now? ) Black Widow ... just for the two of them to strike some kind of deal. Surely not what he was expecting — but it's not what Bucky was planning either.

❝ What about you? Considering you ' want out ' . ❞ He throws her a side-eyed glance for a few seconds before he turns his attention forward again. It's like he's trying to catch her in a lie — not that it would be that easy, and he knows that. ( She's too smart for that. ) So maybe it's more just him trying to get under her skin as well ; saying he knows it's a ploy ... if that's really the case. ( If it's not ... well, he'll feel a little guilty — and embarrassed. ) But he has to get along with her just as long as this takes ... Set this guy up, give Vinicia a hand, cut ties.

GLASS , and pillars surround as they sit in one of the open spaces of FOXARK - a space used for meetings , collaborations or whatever else is needed. UP here they can look out windows and face the heavy fog that decorates GOTHAM in it's loving embrace.

this is the second of THREE LOCATIONS. this one smaller , less auspicious in size as it sits in the center of gotham. he always needed to be in the heart of it all , - it's a work in progress.

' that's what i hear ' eyes averting towards vinicia , and he lets an arm rest upon table as he leans back in chair , ' is this the part where we say that it doesn't get to us ? the pressure . . . social media ' tongue coats the last two words with disdain , brow furrowing as he then inhales. ' maybe that's where the idea of being like everybody meant you're nobody - people obsessed with being anyone BUT themselves. '

social media , i despise the space but understand the need for it. i was never one fond of living under a microscope - i've already been examined enough. i've been on there a few times - friends passing me their phones as they go to show me a reel or a post that they'd think i'd like. though always in their explore are posts about the flood , the waynes , and the past is always there.

' it'll always be easier being nobody when you're like everyone ' he offers a small smile , and a shrug of shoulders. ' maybe that's what people like . . . the knowledge that no one will see past them. makes it easier to present whatever side of yourself is needed ' PAUSES , ' but we've all been guilty of doing that '

“it’s a long story.” shoulders are shrugged, eyes fixed onto his arm as marc takes to bandaging his arm which had a particularly big bite wound in it, still dripping with blood. “let’s just say there was an encounter with one of those damned jackals. it’s dead now.” his brows furrowed as he clenches his teeth to keep from hissing in pain at the sharp sensation that shot through his arm. he’d have to let the suit do the rest of the healing for his other injuries.

he then glanced over at them. “you didn’t get hurt too badly, did ya?”
