Before and after pitfiring these ceramic pendants! [These are sold.] First pic is after firing and after I filled in the figure with some extra red paint. Second pic is before firing. Third pic is after firing (and not filled in with paint yet). This figure is based on a stonecarving/petroglyph I saw in Näsåker, Sweden. Mysterious figure and a moose! What do you think is going on there, what does it depict?

C E R A M I C S  -  I N D E P E N D A N T  S T U D Y

I was wanting to go into textiles and printing for my first pathway as I knew i wanted to create a Kimono for my final piece within the Art in Nature pathway. However, as I was placed in ceramics and printing workshops, I decided to pursue two separate ideas. Here you can see how far i developed my ceramic skills during this pathway, alongside my sewing and printing skills added below.  Here I focused on the traditional method of coiling and pit firing. Most of this was done at home using a dustbin and no bisk firing involved. Two of the ceramic pots above I put in the sagar at college to hopefully achieve greater colouration than I had managed to achieve at home. I will continue for the rest of my days to develop my own method of perfecting my shape and greater understanding of the firing method at home.

Results of my pit firing. Quite pleased with the results. Some I may refire and I think I will highlight the text with acrylic paint to make it more legible. All will need to be sealed. I am using a new product liquid quartz. It's a pretty amazing product that will seal the surface making it food safe and water proof. Without altering the surface appearance.
