Well, shit. The one thing he'd been so worried about had finally happened, hadn't it? They'd finally found him, despite him fleeing across several states, leaving behind his name and whatever other identifying information they could potentially use to track him. He should've been ready, should've been prepared, and yet they'd somehow managed to catch him off-guard. The fight that had ensued was a vicious one and although Matt held his own for quite some time, he was outnumbered in the end. He wasn't sure what exactly had happened, only the sudden pain, then some more, and more.
They'd retreated after that, no doubt convinced he was as good as dead. And for a moment, Matt believed it, too. Hell, maybe it would've been for the best. After all, what kind of life was he even living? On the run, belonging nowhere, scared and paranoid all the time. But something inside of him refused to give up. So he dragged himself outside, onto the busy sidewalk where he finally collapsed.
Everything after that was a blur. He remembered hearing voices all around him, then being hoisted onto something. More voices, organized this time. Blinding light from overhead, questions being asked. He couldn't answer them, or maybe he didn't want to. Whatever. Then he was being moved, and the surroundings changed. Someone else was by his side, too. Someone he didn't recognize ( that was a good thing, right? ). Fuck, everything hurt. "Where am I?"
