Scene favorite artist/illustrator Octavi ‘@pixelshuh’ Navarro switched to making adventure games last year, following his animation work on Ron Gilbert’s Maniac Mansion spiritual successor Thimbleweed Park. His first work was the black-and-white, Twilight Zone-ish mystery Midnight Scenes: The Highway. After four months of work, we got the first bigger set of screenshots for his next game, with a release date somewhere along early March.
The Librarian is, first of all, as you can see, in colors, and trades the paranormal vibe for “a fantasy world full of weird creatures, ghosts and magic.” It’s not immediately obvious from the screenshots, but the scenes are actually constructed 3-dimensionally, with a sort of doll-house feel to it—very fitting, I’d say, as it’s reminiscent of how Octavi’s Scene series illustrations feel like. Without a video though, it’s hard to tell how it will look in practice. The stills look promising enough.
Patrons of Pixels Huh will be able to play the game early, so I’ll tweet out my impressions when that happens (beta hits in a few days for the $10 tier). If you want to support the game yourself, join in on the Patreon page.
It's been a while since I posted one of these! :D
