i was browsing the amblyopia tag and i've seen people posting photos with eyepatches or talking about covering their good eye, so this is going to be a psa.
the eyepatch treatment doesn't work past developmental age. in fact, amplyopia itself can't get better or worse after a certain age. it will only put unnecessary strain on your sight causing headaches and stuff. please check with your oculist before trying out things on your sight.
to all good sighted people, if you're in developmental age pay attention not to cover one eye with bangs or accessories too much. if your sight gets worse in one eye and the brain starts to ignore its images, it won't get better after a certain age anymore.
imho the reason ryo is presented as stereotypically malicious from the get go in animated adaptations as opposed to the original manga is mostly caused by our societal and cultural view of satan as THE malicious figure and the undiscussed absolute evil and knowing that ryo is satan since the beginning. for me, to make the perfect adaptation one needs to pretend not knowing about the twist at all, a bit like nagai didn't plan him being satan until later, while keeping his uncannyness and foreshadowing (his strange healing powers, being able to sense when akira is in danger). to write him in a more genuine way, getting rid of those societal and cultural filters is fundamental
i think for ryo/satan discourse there should be the polar opposite of the "it's not that deep" meme, "it's deeper than that"?
it's funny how in other devilman stuff satan is generally moe and shoujo-like and then you have crybaby murderous fuck
hello tumbler i passed my driving test!!! ...somehow
i interpret victor's line "skaters' hearts are as fragile as glass. let's try shattering his" as "let's try to say something hurtful to provoke a reaction" and not "let's make him break down and cry"
that's why he said "it shattered!"
edit: i wanted to add people have used this method with me in order to motivate me and i just ended up like yuuri
tl;dr victor was inexperienced in handling the situation and used what /he/ thought would work but backfired and has learned/he'll learn from the experience to do better
science is making fancy glasses to attenuate amblyopia now when i was a kid i had to tear my skin apart with adhesive eyepatches
