One of our piggies Rusty came back to stay with us for a bit. Sadly 2 dogs from the neigborhood he lives in jumped his fence and attacked him. He still has a few weepy spots but has come a long way from the initial attack. We are constantly preaching about never ever not for 2 minutes leave the house with you pig and dog together unsupervised. Even a piglet and puppy that have grown up together can not be trusted alone. Pigs are prey animals everything in nature that can, WILL eat them. Dogs are natural predators regardless of the centuries of domestication. A pigs squeal can awaken that predatorial instinct in even the sweetest of pooches. So while dogs and pigs can be best of friends, can nap and play together and give you ebdless photo opts. Never, ever ever ever ever leave them alone together unsupervised. And in this situation it was a neighnors dogs, so watch for potential issues with neighbors dogs trying to get threw your fence. Barking when your pig is outside. As well as checking your fence on your hands and knees to insure there are not excape routs at your pigs level you cant see. If it is needed reinforce your fence. Install a higher fence, put up an electric wire. (Tractor supply solar electric fence boxes are only $100 and a spool of electric twine is $20) put a steel welded dog run inside your fenced back yard so the pig can go out doors and have a safe place to play if needed. call animal control on neighborhood dogs every time they are out loose and if nothing is being done about loose aggressive dogs, arm yourself (even if its just with a airsoft pellet gun) so you can protect your four and two legged family members. If dogs will jump your fence and attack your dog and pig those same dogs could easily attack a small child playing in the yard. Be aware!
