Planet Kingdoms is a personally developed project created by me @starrylapin in late 2017. I decided that I recently wanted to start sharing this project with you all and what better way to do that than build an online directory about information?
PK is an 8 season science-fantasy series (and fictional universe) centered around a group of six childhood-turned-young-adult friends who discover that they are reincarnations of destroyed alien royalty from the other planets in the solar system. The group then has to work to regain their abilities and memories from their past lives while simultaneously trying to track down the remaining 4 royal guardians in the Neo-futuristic city of Midlight. Threatening them and the entire earth come monsters and aliens being sent by those who caused the downfall of the 12 planet kingdoms and their previous incarnations billions of years prior.
Planet Kingdoms is ultimately meant to be a love letter to Earth and humanity, emphasizing connection and diversity. It also a personal project that has formed as a result of my many experiences as a human being and my artistic inspirations.
As of season 1 of Planet Kingdoms, there are 6 known Astral Guardians:
Claire DeLuna, the main character and central protagonist of Planet Kingdoms. She is the reincarnation of Princess Callisto from the Moon Kingdom and the current owner of the Meteor Garden Flower Shop in Midlight City.
Eric Tierra-Sekai, a main character of Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Prince Endymion from the Earth Kingdom. He currently works as a sous chef for Milagros Mexican Restaurant to aid his mother financially while she raises his 7 year old brother, Javier. Their sister, Andrea, 18, has traveled out of town to pursue career opportunities. He also works at Claire’s flower shop.
Louis Estrano, a main character of Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Illusion Nor de Catheris, the royal advisor to Princess Callisto of the Moon Kingdom. Notably, Illusion has no royal lineage, and was instead the adopted son of the Royal Lunar Family’s court sorcerer. Now reincarnated as a human, Louis works part time at Claire’s flower shop and part time at The Black Dog, a local brewery on the outskirts of town.
Avianna Valentine, a main character in Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Princess Acidalia from the Kingdom of Venus. Claire works as a marketing consultant for Cythera, a successful fashion company.
Hiram St. Fotia, a main character in Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Prince Hyro of the Kingdom of Mars. He works as the Director of Finance of Fotia Enterprises as his father owns the company as chairman.
Sabine Xue, a main character in Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Princess Saphrine from the Kingdom of Mercury. She works as a chemistry laboratory intern at Midlight Laboratories.
Karan Indra, a main character in Planet Kingdoms and the reincarnation of Prince Kaetar from the Kingdom of Jupiter. He currently works at Galaxy Comics and Midlight Electric Power, a local electric utility company.
While the kingdoms have been destroyed at the time when the series begins, they are quintessential settings to the overall plot. The Kingdoms themselves are inspired mostly by varying human cultures and civilizations across history.
⟡ MERCURY is inspired primarily by Asia (specifically China, Vietnam, India, Thailand, and Malaysia) and the Middle East (Iran, Saudi Arabia). Mercury’s culture centers on knowledge, intelligence, medicine, travelers and scholars.
⟡ VENUS is inspired by various African cultures (Ethiopia, Namibia, Kenya), Ancient Greece, Mesopotamia, and Ancient Rome. Venus’s culture centers on love, compassion, spirituality, beauty, peace and freedom.
⟡ TERRA (now known as Earth) is likely the planet with the largest inspirational roster, ranging from the Middle Ages to the Mesoamerican empires to feudal Japan, with additional influences from Ancient Rome and Greece as well as Latin American countries such as Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. The reason for Earth’s large range of affects is due to the fact that during the period in which the kingdoms are active civilizations, Earth is the only planet to exhibit 4 seasons, as well as the greatest diversity in natural environments. This span in biomes allows for people from the other planets (which primarily have only one kind of biome) to immigrate and survive on Terra. Change in season is culturally significant to the culture of Terra.
⟡ LUNA (the Moon kingdom) is primarily inspired by Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, with additional influences from several Latin American countries (especially Mexico, Colombia and Brazil).
⟡ MARS is inspired primarily by Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, as well as various Native American cultures (Navajo, Osage, Muskogee, Powhatan, Cherokee, Tohono O’odham), some Mesoamerican empires (Aztec Empire and Mayan Empire), and African countries (Namibia, Sudan).
⟡ JUPITER is inspired by South Asia (primarily India and Nepal), with additional influences from other countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
