Breathes in. Breathes out. Shifts something around behind his back before stepping up to Nana and presenting her with a generous, meticulously wrapped bag of cookies with a note attached. ( And he actually tried to bake them himself! ) "H-Hey, Nana — that special day again, isn't it? I hope these are good. Happy birthday — and Valentine's. I-I really hope it's been a good one!"
Nana was on her way to deliver Lucas her homemade cupcake inside her bag, quite in a hurry so it would still be warm by the time he ate it. What a coincidence they happen to meet, she thought.
❝ Lucas! You seem nervous, are you alright? Special day? Well, of course! People wait all year for Valentine’s day! Have you been enjoying it with anyon— ❞
Her eyes met a cutely wrapped bag and she stopped. It took her a second to realize what that meant. Did he say... birthday? And Valentine’s?? She shook off the thought that the second one could mean. Today was also the day to celebrate friendship, after all! Yes. Of course. But it didn’t make her any less shocked. Did he actually...
❝ You remembered..? Lucas, you didn’t have to... ❞
It was one of those rare occasions when Nana would be at a loss of words. Nana looked back at the present, nervous hands let go of her dress to accept it. What a nice and warm feeling it was to be remembered... Before she noticed a shy smile had already grown on her face, and her eyes felt teary... Wait! No, no!! You can’t cry right now! She quickly lowered her head, taking her hand to her face and hoping Lucas wouldn’t notice. As she did, the girl looked at the mag she was carrying. That’s right! Holding back the tears she smiled back at him.
❝ Ah, r-right! The reason I’m here in the first place. Sorry, I really wasn’t expecting anything, y’know? You really are something else, aren’t you, Lucas? I-It’s not much, especially compared to your present, but... After everything you’ve done for me... ❞
Nana reached her bag with her free hand and grabbed a gently wrapped box, inside a still-warm Valentine’s cupcake.. She smiled at the boy, handing him her present.
❝ You deserve hundred of these, I’m sorry I can only offer one... Happy Valentine’s, Lucas! ❞
