We were in my dad's basement shop. Taping together two huge plastic sheets and creating a giant bag. Then spray painting the words "FUCK YOU" on the side. In mammoth black letters. I held the open end of the balloon to the overhead forced air heater and the craft inflated. And floated. We taped off the tail end and my brother Dan opened the basement door and we slid it outside into the chill air, watching and snickering as it slowly rose over the trees, drifted eastward a half mile and came to rest on the lawn of a despised local cop. The signage a cheery Good Morning to Officer Witkowski.
