The Most Understanding

In my journey of this sick kid life I have found that the most understanding and caring people I know are chronically ill. At the same time though I have found some of the most bitter and short tempered people.

Here's why I think that is.

First we are a group of people that experience some level of pain everyday. Some days worse then others, and some worse then others. We literally experince some degree of pain all the time. We even have pains we are willing to take or deal with all the time if it meant we didn't have to have the other. We have pains we know will be right there with us at the crack of our eyes in the morning every day. We also have debilitating pains on worse days that keep us in bed. Sometimes for extended amount of time. So we get canceling plans because you dont feel well or aren't up to it. When someone calls you apologizing that they are late. I mean there are times where I have to use the bathroom every ten minutes and I can't get anything done. Shit happens, literally sometimes. Ha! We get things like running late because of the things we deal with. Now that doesnt mean we are a rug to walk all over. I just means we tend to have more things interfering with life so we get that things interrupt unexpectedly at times.

Being chronically ill is like being on a rollercoaster and blind folded. Your up your down left and right and sometimes upside down. You dont really know when your about to go up but you can definitely tell when your about to go down.

Being chronically ill means never truly being able to set something in stone because you have this chaotic factor to your life.

So we get changes in plans.

Personally because of my health I emphasize and understand others better. I have meet many others that share these traits.

Personally when I meet someone else who struggles with a chronic illness to whatever degree I empathize for them because I know how much harder it makes life. It doesn't stop there though. If i have a friend of perfect health and they get sick I empathize for them because I know how it feels, and whether it be a every day thing or not it sucks.

[These are also the moments where I get to step up with my knowledge of being chronically ill! Aha! Because I know all the tricks and tips to make you at least more comfortable while your sick!]

Being chronically ill can give you a level of compassion and understanding. (I mean I would much rather go about being more compassionate and understanding in another way, but it is what it is.) I liked to consider it a silver lining to the whole ordeal because it gives me this level of understanding.

I also believe that the lack of people more compassionate and caring is what causes part of the other spectrum of chronically ill people who are bitter and short with others.

From what I see this spectrum of people are those who don't receive the care they need. That aren't believed or helped in a positive way by their loved ones. That are treated like burdens for needing an extra hand. That don't have a support system saying "We know you are doing your best. We are here for you." If you don't get why that might make a person bitter or short, you're lucky, you've never been chronically ill.

So to tie it all together this page is for; the ones who need support, for the fellow spoonies and loved ones,for those who want to understand what its like to be chronically ill, for those who want to tall about the struggles of the sickkid life.
