I remember my Dad telling me stories about plains-wanderers when I was young, but I didn't appreciate how unique they are until their brief mentions (twice for a total of 3 pages in a book that's 318 pages, excluding contents pages index & bibliography) in "When Song Began" by Tim Low. That was still pre-COVID, but seeing this article made me think of that book again. I may reread it. I've read it cover to cover before, but it's been a few years & I like rereading my books.
