How do you use those magic squares you keep posting? They look cool

I talk about it in detail here, but I'll give a quick summary.

Magical word squares contain power in both their words and formations. They have been carved onto walls, doors, tablets, and even divination tools like crystal balls. Simply writing the charm invokes its power.

But many practitioners incorporate these symbols into other spells. Writing the charm with a specific ink at a certain time will imbue it with power. Some power carry it in their wallet, divination case, or sleeve depending on the spell's purpose. Others fold the paper in a specific way and add it to witch bags. I've often seen these charms combined or written alongside other words/symbols.

If we're talking about the planetary squares involving numbers, these are a bit different. There's a method of using these squares to create sigils. And of course, they must be written during the day/time of that planet. I'm down to write about it sometime if people are interested.

How To Craft Sigils

Sigils are an ancient practice in which one’s desire can be brought into manifestation through using magick grids that embody an essence of some sort. The essence is then transferred into the sigil when it is numerologically crafted onto the grid. One type of method is the Planetary Squares. Without embodying an essence through being crafted properly on a grid, a sigil is merely a design. 

You can find a tutorial on how to make sigils with Planetary Squares on this site. This site shows all of the Squares for each traditional planet.

The following are what each of the Squares can assist with, as they are linked to the energies of the planets and can help with whatever that certain planet is connected to:

Sun Square: virility, ego, strength of heart, confidence, creativity, superiors, power, success, advancement, leadership, growth, friendship, truth, justice, abundance.

Draw the sigil in yellow or gold.

Moon Square: sleep, dream magick, astral travel, psychic powers, uncovering secrets, remaining hidden, fertility, intuition, emotions.

Draw the sigil in light purple, light blue, or silver.

Mercury Square: communication, intellect, business, writing, studying, contracts, trade, information, memory, wisdom, wit, creativity. 

Draw the sigil in orange or purple.

Venus Square: love, pleasure, sex, the arts, music, wisdom, knowledge, desire, beauty, luxury, abundance, social affairs, harmony, joy, compassion.

Draw sigil in emerald green or teal

Mars Square: sex, strength, lust, anger, destruction, surgery, medical issues, competition, conflict, athletics.

Draw sigil in red.

Jupiter Square: success, abundance, money, growth, visions, luck, gambling.

Draw sigil in blue.

Saturn Square: astral travel, real estate, banks, debts, institutions, obstacles, limitations, binding, knowledge, death, buildings, time, structures, discipline.

Draw sigil in purple, gray, or black.

To use your sigil, meditate upon it for at least 10 minutes without any distractions. Do this multiple times and consider listening to ambiance music if you wish, but focus all your attention onto the sigil and intently visualize it manifesting your desire.

aaaah I'm so drained. Just did my first charm bag, with a studied ritual and stuff. I grinded the spices for a while, and my arm is still trembling, but I'm kinda satisfied with the finished work. I kinda fucked up at some point but I managed to get it done, in the right way. Now the amulet is being fed with its golden candle... Now I can relax, and wait.

Do you use the other magic squares for sigils too? I tried using the one i felt corresponded better with the subject at first but I didn't like the resulting sigils visually so now I only use saturn

Sigil Making (pt 1/??)

Sigils are thoughts and intentions given a concrete form. Many different religions and paths have used them throughout history, and one of the most notable collection of sigils is the Key of Solomon, a grimoire which contains sigils and seals dating back to roughly 14th- or 15th-century Italian Renaissance. In modern day, they're primarily used to give a concrete form to wishes and desires, which are often called intents. The magic behind sigils rests primarily in the process of making them, connecting magic and psychology together in a really neat way that allows anyone to use them. Their uses are varied, from providing good luck or for protection, to boost one's confidence or to aid in sleep, and there's no right or wrong way to create them. If you have an intention, you can create a sigil!

A Few Methods of Making

**Austin Osman Spare This method was widely used by Austin Osman Spare, a chaos magician, artist and naturalist who utilized sigils as a concrete forms of thoughts and desires. It takes the written phrase of the intention, crosses out the vowels, then crosses out duplicate letters. The leftover letters are then used for the sigil. An example:

"I am patient and kind" -remove vowels "m ptnt nd knd" -remove repeated letters "m p k" will be the letters used.

There's also a few variants of this method. One removes only the vowels, and another removes the repeated letters. In the end, there isn't a right or wrong way to use this method.

**PLANETARY SQUARES This method I'm not familiar with (as I haven't looked much into planetary squares yet), but I'm going to list it here for anyone who may be interested! Planetary squares are mathematical squares with the arrangement of distinct integers in a grid in which the integers of each row, column and diagonal all add up to the same number, and they use the names, numbers and representations of planetary bodies. Most of the squares used in this method are ones that have been created thousands of years ago, but there is a simpler method to making your own square (using math). Each planetary body has a number that represents it. That number becomes the numbers of boxes horizontally and vertically. Then, each box becomes a number, and all the numbers in the boxes will add up to a sum, which will then be divided by the planetary number. This example will use Saturn. It's represented by the number 3, so there will be three boxes horizontally and 3 vertically, which gives a total of 9 boxes in the square. The sum of the square would be 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9, which equals 45. 45 divided by Saturn's planetary number 3 is 15, so each row and column needs to equal 15. Now, to make a sigil using the planetary square, you can utilize the Western system of numerology in which each letter has a numberial equivalent. When you choose your word or phrase of intent, you would use the letters' numbers to drawn the sigil with each number correlating with a number in your square. I personally haven't used this method yet, and there's a lot of research needed for using the already created squares. Before using this method I would recommend looking a little more into planetary and magick squares for a better understanding of it.

**Zodiac This method is similar to planetary squares, but instead of a magickal square it utilizes a chart for the person who is the object of the working (usually a natal chart), or for the place/time the creation is intended to take effect. There's a ton of sources that will make charts for you, ranging from free services to paid programs. The charts generally use the Hebrew Alphabet (it doesn't contain vowels), but there's resources available to help convert those letters into their English counterparts. Once the chart is drawn and the symbols replaced by the letters, the sigil is drawn in a similar manner to the planetary squares using one or two words of intent.

**Freeform The Freeform method is only a title I've come to call it, but I'm sure you'll find it called other things depending on who you talk to. This one has become my personal favorite, as there's no limit to what you could create. However, some may find this one a little more difficult than some of the others, as this one has no set method to it. The main part of the freeform is to convert your intent or thought into a picture format using symbols and/or elements that represent the thought/intent. It may take several sketches before it becomes the perfect picture. A good dose of creativity is definitely needed, which can make this method difficult at times, but I find the results in the end to be extremely rewarding.

All-in-all, there's absolutely no right or wrong way to make and use sigils. If you don't want to use the usual alphabet, create your own! Don't want to use just pen and paper? Don't be afraid to get creative and use paints, colors, dry-erase markers on windows, water, dirt, fire, ash, or even your finger in air (though sketching it on paper before drawing in the air would definitely help). You can even tie sigils into talismans, jewelry, stones, quilting, cooking, and more!  I will recommend always doing a little of your own research as well-- a little more knowledge on the subject can never hurt! I'll have another post about the different methods of charging, casting, and using sigils, and the more that I learn and find, the more I'll add on to both this post and the future ones.
