During all this time off sheltering in, I’d imagine there are quite a bit of folks who are interested in getting into plants, but don’t know where to begin. At 11AM EST today, as part of #EarthDay and on behalf of my #HouseplantMasterclass, I’ll be taking over the @teachable live feed. We’ll go over questions like identifying the right plant for your space and showcasing some easy starter plants. The concept is simple: find one of your favorite plant shops, purchase a plant, and send to someone you love. Just as we have B.C. and A.D. to mark calendar eras, we’ll begin referring to activities we did B.P. (Before Pandemic) and A.P. (After Pandemic). This was a succulent shopping episode I did B.P. with @quidditystories at @sprouthomebrooklyn. Sprout is just one of the many plant shops that had to shut its doors (their employees are running a GoFundMeCampaign), but there are plenty of plant shops and garden centers that remain open in some way, shape or form. To date, almost 140 plant shops around the world have responded to the #PlantOneForward initiative (on my blog, highlighted stories). So if you’re thinking a plant could be a good gift for someone at this time, consider supporting some of your favorite local plant shops or discovering new ones.
