Every single time I go and see stand up comedy I come out saying “that was great, I should do that more often”, yet frustratingly, I only ever seem to go every now and again. Friday night was one such occasion as I braved the sub-zero temperatures and the District Line to go West to Hammersmith to see Ross Noble dominate the Apollo.
The evening started as per my usual visits to Hammersmith; with a Burrito from Tortilla. I do love a burrito and Friday’s was particularly tasty (N.B. it was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo, hence the empty packaging below).
Following a swift pint, we headed to the Apollo for a night of laughs.
Friend of Planvine, C-Cam had secured us some great seats, 6 rows from the front from which we enjoyed warm-up act Oompah Brass – a quintet of brass musicians playing classic pop tunes. I was a big fan; they even made Queen sound half-decent.
The tickets stated that the show started at 8pm, though we expected a warm up comic before Ross came on. We were wrong and were in fact treated to almost 3 hours of the manic Geordie comic. If any of you have ever seen Noble live, you’ll be familiar with his largely-improvised live shows, something which is quite an incredible feat to witness. As he himself picked up on early-on in the show, he often goes off on wild tangents, a lot of which are based on the audience’s behaviour.
Since photography is banned during the show, here’s a clip of Ross taken from his last tour:
A stand up experience like never before and one that I’d highly recommend. I’m also a big fan of Hammersmith Apollo, I think it’s a fantastic venue, full of character.
