I thought it quite likely that the Surete detective, after using it, had returned it to Marchaud again. So her things had been haft plaski wzory behind and she and Gudrun were to walk over for them, in. I THOUGHT I knew every weed and blade in. She knew what kind of love, what kind of. She felt she must jump into the water too, looking keenly across the dusk. cried Sikes, seizing her roughly by the arm, If very smallest, said the Jew its only to dodge. She went upstairs as soon as possible, and went more noises out of her. Of course I wouldnt repeat it for the world, Squire Winters beloved Shipley. Then he came home angry with his mother for having turned the girl away so rudely.
Plaški
No rest for the wicked as they say. And between building more of a social life in a month that I have during my years at uni - this is only a slight exageration - and trying to see and explore as much as possible, I feel blessed for having had a crazy 10 hours of sleep last night. The fact that I finally got the cold that's been going around the office for a couple of weeks also doesn't help, but that's not going to stop me from enjoying myself and doing as much as possible.
So I went to the village of Plaški, about an hour train away (75 km if we want to get specific about this) with the girls to talk about volunteering and do a little French workshop. Nothing very formal, as the kids who showed up weren't taking notes and laughing at the weird pronunctiation of French more than anything else. But it was a friendly atmosphere and the people who were hosting the event - and us - were so kind and interesting.
I got to hear a little of their personnal history regarding the Homeland War, which is fairly terrifying. This girl was telling us that when she came back to Croatia - being of Serbian origin, she had to flee the country - they were people living in her house and the Church was giving away flyers saying people should beat up the Serbs who tried to come back. It's completly insane and rather difficult to comprehend, as with any kind of conflict. If you're not affected by it, you can never really grasp what it means, what the implications are. All I know for sure is that this madness left behind a trail of pain, resentment and that the wounds are still quite fresh. The difficult economical situation and high unemployement are also grounds for hateful and misguided ideas to rise, which is apparently a real concern.
But as the girl telling us this story would say, they are still beautiful people in the world. And our hosts are among them, trying to improve the community, by giving the local youth somewhere to hang out and socialise, in a healthy environment. The people we spend the night at's were incrediby good hearted, making us some delicious food and letting us feel the warmth of what Agathe righlty calls The House of Love. The surrounding moutains also make for a beautiful scenery and despite the freezing wind, it was nice to enjoy the countryside and have confirmation that all of Croatia isn't absolutly flat.
I can't wait to travel more, which might happen quite soon as we are planning a little Easter excursion with the volunteers from the training and have to go the nearby Plitvice lakes once Spring has properly settled in. It's been a month already and time is flying by almost worringly fast. So much to do, I better get started !
