Pokemon Card of the Day #1725: Victory Piece (Plasma Storm)

Victory Piece was an Ace Spec that could only be attached to Victini EX. When it was, Victini EX needed no Energy to use its attacks. The only way that this would be really worthwhile was with a damaging attack, but the only one like this that it had dealt 50 damage to normal Pokemon and 100 to Pokemon EX. Not the impact needed for the use of an Ace Spec.

Things changed a bit as time went on. Virizion EX and Genesect EX had tons of success, and both had a Fire Weakness and were therefore taken out by a Victini EX. While Cobalion EX was always hanging around, there was a boost of popularity in Metal decks as time went on which included it and Aegislash EX. This gave Victini EX enough targets to make it and Victory Piece a tech option in decks that normally struggled against these threats.

Pokemon Card of the Day #1724: Scramble Switch (Plasma Storm)

Not every Ace Spec was a remake of an old card. Scramble Switch was something new. It was an Item that let you switch your Active Pokemon with 1 of your Benched Pokemon then move as many Energy from the Pokemon you switched out to the new Active Pokemon as you wanted. Being able to unexpectedly get a new, healthy big attacker out there when one was weak was a really powerful ability. While it didn’t have quite as many important moments in games compared to things like Dowsing Machine or Computer Search, it had a way of helping continue an onslaught and preventing and opponent from getting an opportunity to turn the game around. This made it a nice option if your deck tended to work quite nicely without the two aforementioned cards or something like G Booster.

Pokemon Card of the Day #1723: Dowsing Machine (Plasma Storm)

Dowsing Machine was one of those Ace Spec cards, which meant it was limited to 1 in a deck but was very powerful. It was basically the old Item Finder or Junk Arm with that restriction. Despite this, and blocking the use of other Ace Spec cards such as Computer Search, Dowsing Machine was rather popular because fetching a Trainer when needed could make a huge difference in a game. The best reason to leave this card out was just if you wanted another Ace Spec more than it, because it was very nice for almost any deck.

Pokemon Card of the Day #1722: Plasma Energy (Plasma Storm)

Plasma Energy, on its card, claimed to simply provide Colorless Energy. This was true for most, but it had extra uses when paired with other cards. It could be searched out with Colress Machine to attack to a Pokemon, but the main use was to activate effects of different Team Plasma Pokemon. Lugia EX couldn’t attack without it, for example, Thundurus EX could discard an Energy from the Defending Pokemon while attacking, and Articuno EX, while much rarer, could guarantee Paralysis with one of these attached. Genesect EX could force a switch if this was attached from the hand as well. This gave Plasma Energy obvious uses in the specific decks that could use it.
