Another exhibition that I caught on its last day! This exhibition by @hughieodonoghue was also part of the Galway International Arts Festival, which is usually in July, but had an Autumn scaled-down festival this year. Very atmospheric paintings, with quite a 'plague' feeling, despite being created pre-COVID. This is the Plassy shipwreck side-on, with the Cliffs of Moher in the background. It has been here for 60 years now, suffering a little more damage each year, but still looking striking! (It can be seen how it looked in the 90s in the opening credits of 'Fr. The Plassy shipwreck is one of the most iconic sights of Inis Oírr. It was shipwrecked in 1960, thankfully with no loss of life. Unusually for the time and place, there are great photos of the rescue of the crew, taken by John Messenger, who was doing an ethnographic study on the island at the time.
