The knitting related currachs were some of my favourites from the 'Curacha' exhibition at Áras Éanna on Inis Oírr. When I was a child, we visited the graveyard every day in November (Mí na Marbh/Month of the Dead) to pray for our deceased relatives. I'm not sure if this was common in other places? This little house is built over St. Kevin's Bed (Leaba Chaomháin) in the graveyard in Inis Oírr. It's the resting place of the patron saint of the island, Naomh Caomhán/St. Kevin. This is the Plassy shipwreck side-on, with the Cliffs of Moher in the background. It has been here for 60 years now, suffering a little more damage each year, but still looking striking! (It can be seen how it looked in the 90s in the opening credits of 'Fr. The Plassy shipwreck is one of the most iconic sights of Inis Oírr. It was shipwrecked in 1960, thankfully with no loss of life. Unusually for the time and place, there are great photos of the rescue of the crew, taken by John Messenger, who was doing an ethnographic study on the island at the time.
