From Paradise to Plasticdise to Trashdise.
No we are not “Lost in Translation” we are LOST IN TRASHLATION we became a TRASHNATION. When I started this project by writing my book ALLTAGSOBJEKT PALSTIKTÜTE a book about plastic bags in 2006 trash and plastic was absolutely no issue. Maybe here in Germany ecological lifestyle was established a bit - but not really. Ecological consciousness has always been somehow woven into the green German wing but plastic and trash was still a healthy part of a rising economy... Now: “Trash Islands” are being introduced by the LAD bible - I hope they accept me as citizen...
But for me, Mass Tourism and Mass Consumerism are the two major causes of this simple problem. And as long as we mass consume countries, products, clothes, ideas, philosophies, religions, music, art and all there is, “Trash Islands” get bigger and bigger and bigger and might be the alternative for the “poor” when the mission to Mars was successful. The “rich” fly off to Mars the “poor” swim to “Trash Islands” - and make it into Trashdise!
While plastic bags are being prohibited in more and more cities, countries and institutions also through great initiatives like ByeByePlasticBags - plastic packaging in general gets thicker and more sophisticated in case you haven't noticed it...
As if I won´t realise this - with my eagle eyes...
To live a plastic free life is a big challenge, a very big challenge, a very big one and its almost impossible to be honest and - no wait - it is (still) luxury... it is possible if someone - else - is hiding it for you..
Plastic was one day the absolut modern material of a better future and today it represents the absolut failure in managing this material especially when having it as base for fast food and production of any kind for an international established single used throw away economy ... and of course - needless to say - its part of our modern economy based on fossil resources and oil.
Plastic bags are already a relict of the past somehow - thats what I think - because my view scannes and absorbs everything there is on social and print media, internet and word by mouth about plastic, plastic bags, trash, green living and alternative developments. There is so much going on right now, so much - that in my reality I could even be convinced that we actually already live a healthy, plastic free, trash free, plant based, green, vegan etc life... but no - that is just my reality because I focus on it... visiting other cultures and friends with different lifestyles and orientations I am being reminded, that my Facebook feed is as unique as I am and a one of a kind feed, because the algorithm remembers my googleling behaviour and so on... when I think: shell I write something about this first thing which comes into my mind - everybody is writing and blogging about this ...
So this is a TRASHEL blog instead of a fancy, chic, stylish Travel Blog.
