What does your dinner look like? Mine follows the Australian Dietary Guidelines. As a nutritionist, knowing that less than 4% of the population follow the guidelines, yet they are "blamed" for our rising rates of obesity, the amount of people promoting restrictive diets is on the rise. You may look at this picture and go - hang on this looks a bit low carb? I chose to on this occasion to have a dessert of custard with cashews, otherwise I would usually eat a more long acting source such as a piece of toast (rye bread) to soak up the egg. What's on my plate: 1 egg fried in a little butter 3 small slices of smoked salmon seasoned with lemon and pepper 2 tablespoons of low fat cottage cheese seasoned with garlic powder and chives 1/2 an avocado A big handful of rocket 1 small tomato 2 sweet and sour cucumbers A few slices of cucumber The Australian guidelines picture of a plate recommends: 1/2 is salad/non starchy veggies 1/4 is protein (egg, salmon, cottage cheese 1/4 is long acting carbs (eg. A piece of toast, a small serve of rice etc) I chose low fat dairy as my fat came from the egg and avocado No need for numbers or maths This was delicious by the way :)
