9. worst part of canon
i HATE the "tear the fascists down" montage. hate it. genuinely the only bad part of what is otherwise the best episode of the show, in no small part because it is frankly insulting to rosie dealing with feeling like he's Not Doing Enough AND bucky in the middle of a straight up lynching by fucking nazis to slap croz's cute little infidelity date—a plotline i have no interest in except for the fact that it is eating up what could be MORE ROSIE SCREENTIME!!!—over their storylines and treat it like it's even remotely as related to any fight against fascism. also i know particularly the wwii entries of the spanks war franchise are just american war machine propaganda but like. if the US cared about "tearing the fascists down" we'd have gotten involved in the european theater MUCH earlier than 1942. it's so fucking saccharine and gummy in a way that i think mota mostly manages to avoid [certainly compared to how band of brothers framed the ETO, with all it's "they're just like us!" messaging] that it drives me nuts. it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth during, again, what i think is otherwise one of the best episodes of anything ever, not just mota and not just hbowar.

no okay actual answer: i need everyone to start treating bucky's suicidal despair spiral, both in the stalag and before it, with a LOT less annoyance and a LOT more compassion instead of framing it as juvenile and a burden on the other characters and gale specifically. like... i've been there. i've been so far down in the dark and not handled it kindly or maturely or politely, and i'm extremely lucky i had friends and family who didn't see that behavior as dismissable as this fandom seems to see bucky's, because i wouldn't BE here if that was all i had to lean on.
