My piece on the new MtG rules changes. I'm basically OK with them, but if you're a stick in the mud like me, things are going to get vastly different, and it's going to take a while to adjust.

Articles should always speak for themselves, but here's the TL;DR version: If you don't want to jump all the hoops (time, preparation, playing a hundred matches) the pros do when you enter a Magic: the Gathering tourney, go right ahead, but know the following:

1. You'll have a hell of a time beating netdecks with anything but luck

2. That's OK, as long as you know the score

3. That doesn't make it less viable for you to be there, and there sure as hell shouldn't be a nickname for you, and that nickname shouldn't be "Scrub," for the love of God.

4. As a casual player who's dabbled in more formal events, I have to say that Jackie Lee's evaluation of rogue decks and tournament play is . . . regrettably accurate. Sadness. But well done?
