Fan Art Friday - 13th Doctor Who and Why
This week's #FanArtFriday features The 13th Doctor (from BBC's Doctor Who, the Mr. Men edition) with the Why Bird from Playdays. Happy birthday, Jodie Whittaker (the 13th Doctor) and Arthur Darvill (Rory, Doctor Who), son of Ellie Darvill (Why Bird, Playdays. (Well, there are connections to Doctor Who, anyway.)
So my wife @cosmicsynthetics was telling me there are *actually* fans of Scoob and Shag on here and I should post my scoob n shag doodles! TLDR it’s a parody/dadaist humour comic about cartoon characters in space that fight each other and monsters and it’s.... funny as hell and pretty good actually. The obvious characters are cs’ take on Dan Backslide and Peppa pig: respectively a scavenger surviving on a monster infested ship, and a lil toon driven mad by the power of her meme status. The others are from a UK kid’s show called Playdays that used to run when I was a kid- what better way to avoid making a scoob n shag version of a character someone has already done than to dig up weird puppet bs from england~? -The ‘Why Bird’ often teams up with Dan to improve their resource gathering: Using her ballyhoo ‘pre-recorded’ to replay events and tell him what went down in areas before he explores further or looks for supplies. Technically her power is more specific and requires her to be able to focus in on events surrounding objects or people, but I can’t believe I’m even talking about cartoon epic battle manga AUs as it is.
-Poppy the Cat is one ugly puppet cat but I love her. Her ballyhoo power is ‘dubbing/voice acting’ and lets her project her (annoying) voice out of other peoples’ mouths or more easily onto anthropomorphic objects. She keeps at least one badly made plush toy (often just a beanbag with google eyes and a smile) in order to give them to teammates so she can relay info over distances. She’s very bitter about not having a combat based ability and her lack of popularity. -’patches’ Peggy Patch is a rag doll character, known for her keen research and investigative skills. At some point she lost an eye (and a brother?) during the events of Scoob and Shag. She actually HAS a combat ballyhoo: dolly zoom, which allows her to move quickly towards opponents while distorting their perception of depth. Her, poppy and the why bird work as a team to survive in their dead-space-esque spaceship misadventures, and later pick up dan as cad and bounder ally. (also bonus doodles of.... gorefield? marco diaz, speedy gonzales and blue from blues clues? god help me)
Just found out that Arthur Darvill's mum played the Whybird on Playdays!
