I feel like we're sleeping on the fact that the Player canonically has a dog.

Everyone writes these Not-A-Game AUs to show Joshua Freeman all the love, but we could be getting canon-compliant fics in which the Player struggles with balancing his life in the game and his need to care for his dog. Or him talking to the AIs about his dog. Or the AIs meeting the dog. There are many possibilities here.

I just think the concept and subject of Player/Gordon being more of a ''Alien God'' than Benrey is very intriguing to dwelve into in writing and whatnot. I wanted to reflect that in this drawing a bit, how (most) of the AI are all really unaware of the power he truly holds. They interact with someone who they'd consider to be the actual ''Alien''. Gordon is human, they're not, it's two completely different worlds. It's just juicy to think about and character analyze.

This art pertains to an AU but it works just as fine to canonical HLVRAI too very well. The Benrey, Bubby & Coomer drawn for this is designed by @starplatimoon <3

after seeing so many hlvrai animatics with flashes of reality overlaid onto the game actually seeing wayne's fucking arm edited over gordon's in act 2 is making me feel an emotion i cannot describe

something about all the weird stuff about disconnection and bodies of water and the divides between reality and game in hlvr. i couldnt think of a good title.

Player characterization options for myself:

1: Just a normal dude. Has a life outside of the games. The one I personally think is the most likely option.

2: The game obsessed shut-in interpretation that has been popular lately within the fandom.

3: Extreme dopamine junkee that does extreme sports as a hobby every other day. Plays the hlvrai games specifically for the life-threatening thrill. Explains the jock part of his character. Why does he keep coming back to the games? Hes survived enough bungee jumping without support ropes to confidently believe he'd survive haunted video games. Why are there huge gaps between gaming sessions? He's too distracted trying to find new ways to put his life in peril that the games are an afterthought. Why did he abandon the hlvrai1 cast for so long? He had slipped while parkouring on a huge ferris wheel and was in a coma for 2 years, bad enough to mess up his brain. One day the player stops logging in and Coomer goes to the internet again to find him only to find a news report that he died exploring a 2000 meter deep cave called the maw of satan.

not to be overdramatic or anything but the player choosing to give up his place in the real world for one of the ai. rather, it's not out of the kindness of his heart or his generosity; it's selfishness.

swapping places in hlage was sort of freeing in a way. no numbers to measure his self worth, no more of the countless eyes on him, no persona to put on, no acting to do, no responsibility. sure, the fact that nobody seemed to realize he was gone, that nobody missed him, hurt...but... that's just it, nobody missed him.

the ability to give his life to someone else, to remove all that weight from his shoulders...it's freedom.. there will be no missing posters, no phone calls, no friends and family mourning. he'll just be gone. free.

no, this isn't running, it's becoming someone better. this is healing. this is change.

admittedly i am a big fan of the player’s name being gordan, not that it was pre hlvrai, but as they got caught further into the game(s) they took on the name gordan because it felt realer at some point. specifically probably during the course of hlage, since the gnome kept referring to them as gordan rather than alyx, cementing them as GORDAN vs the player
