“Hey, Peter?"
“Yeah?"
“What’s that you’ve got there?"
Peter looks into his hand, “Uh... Cheese?"
“Cheese."
“Yes."
The look Tony gives him is beyond unimpressed, and Peter just cocks his hip, clutching the small kitten to his chest. It’s a stare down, and Peter feels a little out of his depth. He doesn’t care.
Tony sighs, “Tell me why you have a cat in the lab, Peter."
It’s close to Tony’s angry voice, but not quite. So Peter just pretends to ignore him and kisses the kitten on the head, rounding a desk to approach where U and DUM-E are finishing some meaningless test that Tony assigned them earlier.
Tony watches him with narrowed eyes, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow. Peter mirrors his expression, raising his own eyebrow, before kneeling down next to the bots.
He keeps an eye on Tony while holding the kitten up to them—
“Hey guys, meet your new friend— Cheese."
Cheese the kitten chooses that moment to chirp, high and bright, while squirming in Peter’s loose grip. He watches Tony fight a smile as he drops the cat on top of DUM-E’s arm, keeping a hand up protectively as the kitten scrambles for purchase and the robot squeals in delight.
Once Cheese jumps to the ground, guided by Peter’s hand, the chase begins— both robots beeping frantically and trying to catch the cat as it darts across the lab, tripping and flailing in tiny, kitten-like joy. Peter laughs, jumping back to his feet, and is suddenly pulled back against Tony’s chest.
Peter wiggles weakly, trying to get free, but letting Tony hold him in place. There’s a sharp bite to his ear and Peter squawks, grabbing at Tony’s arms around his waist. The bots have Cheese cornered, but Peter isn’t worried— they are exceedingly gentle with the tiny cat.
“I don’t know if I can handle another kitten around here,” Tony murmurs, kissing his neck, nibbling on the sensitive skin behind his ear.
Peter hums, turning slightly to look over his shoulder, “What do you mean, Tony? Another... oh."
“Yeah, oh,” Tony mocks, “Do you even understand how hot it is watching you with the three of them? So gentle, Pete— god, it’s killing me."
“Oh, god,” Peter breathes, and then throws back his head, laughing hard, “I can’t... oh my god, I can’t believe you said that!” He wheezes, letting Tony turn him gently so he’s looking up into the older man’s eyes, soft with affection and amusement.
There’s a crash in the distance, but they ignore it, content to stare, longingly into each other’s eyes. He watches Tony lean down and tip his head up, connecting their lips sweetly.
The lab goes to shit in the background— whining beeps and desperate kitten yowls— but the two of them are lost, drowning again and again in the soft slide of lips, the warmth of their shared embrace.
Peter breaks off with a smile, “Am I really your kitten?” he purrs, squeezing Tony’s arms playfully.
Tony grins, eyes narrowing wolfishly, “Why don’t you let me catch you, and we can find out?"
When Peter takes off, hurdling furniture with Tony hot on his tail, he sends a mental thank you to Cheese, making eye contact with the cat as it mrows thoughtfully.
