You think you know how Starsky and Hutch really got together? Ha!

CHICKEN 🐔

The story changes from time to time. No one can tell when or how or what it will be next. Or even if and when the same one will resurface. All anyone knows, is it's always a delightful treat.

"Starsky!" Huggy calls with a mischievous smile on his lips. "Would you mind telling these fine folks here how you and Hutch ended up together?"

"Sure!" Starsky replies with the familiar impish glint in his eyes. "You see, one of our good friends and colleagues at the precinct dared us to play "Gay Chicken", which is where two straight guys pretend to be gay and the first one to chicken out loses. Of course, we couldn't pass the dare up. What you need to understand is that Hutch and I are both very, very competitive and REALLY stubborn and neither one of us wanted to lose."

His mesmerized audience is eating out of his hand. Starsky leans in and his voice takes a conspiratorial tone.

"We've been married 12 years and let me tell you, if Blondie doesn't chicken out soon, I'm going to start suspecting that he's actually gay."

Hutch materializes behind Starsky, leans over his shoulder and goes, "Bok!"

Playing Chicken, Park Sookeun

Audio Commentary by Kim Namjoon Transcription

Park Sookeun, one of Korea’s most beloved modern artists, was entirely self-taught. His formal education ended after elementary school, when he was forced to drop out in order to help support his impoverished family. But from the age of twelve, when he first saw a photo of Jean-François Millet’s painting The Angelus, Park dreamed of becoming a great artist. In particular, he wanted to follow Millet’s example by portraying scenes from everyday life with the sanctity of religious art. Staying true to his childhood dream, Park spent his entire career painting the daily lives, labors, and pastimes of ordinary Koreans.

Park’s paintings of children, women, and elderly people, rendered on a layered, granite-like surface, were completely unlike any other artworks in Korea at the time. This innovative style, with a texture reminiscent of tomb paintings on rock walls, was inspired by archaeological excavations of the Goguryeo tombs in North Korea. Also, granite is nearly ubiquitous throughout the Korean Peninsula, making it a natural aesthetic choice to represent Korea and its people.

As seen here, one of Park’s recurring themes was children at play, which he felt symbolized warmth, community, and friendship. A group of children sits in front of a humble thatched-roof house, playing a game. Standing off to one side, an older girl plays a more responsible role, watching over the group while caring for a baby on her back.

“that was impressive”

It was cold and a little bit cruel. Eun-Sang let her disgust for Kim Tan show after the noble assembly meeting. She did her best not to get caught alone with him but had failed today. Her former fiancé always made her stomach turn.

“You made them forget what a huge slut you are. I guess your peasant trash can’t complain about your history either. How did you get them not to talk about it?”

Eun-Sang rolled her eyes. She had no interest in where this conversation was going. She wanted to get out of her hanbok and into her car. The sooner she did that, the sooner she could see Young-Do. 

But Tan always rubbed her the wrong way and she had to brag.

“I was always going to break our engagement. I just needed to make sure the best women weren’t available for you to slither after. Rachel, Bo-Na, Ji-Sun, and Ye-Sol were all on your list. They’re all married or engaged now.” 

She wasn’t surprised that he raised a hand to hit her. It wouldn’t be the first time he lost his temper. She knew the rumors. Unfortunately, her security detail wasn’t close enough to stop him, and she wasn’t going to be able to scream in time.

So, she was a bit shocked when Tan suddenly wasn’t in front of her anyway. There was a crack, a shout of pain, and he just wasn’t there. In his place was Young-Do. He grinned down at her and kissed her gaping lips.

“What are you doing here?”

“You look cute. I didn’t realize you had to wear hanbok for official meetings.”

“Rachel made it for me.” There was a stir happening around them but she just tugged him down to kiss her. “You might be stuck here tonight.”

So Taylor Swift is playing a game of chicken... maybe in her “getaway car”, not sure who she’s playing this game with, but she did say “let the games begin”
