Happy father’s day. This herb is Yarrow (Achillea milefolium). In Irish its name is athair thalún, meaning earth father. Because it is a very prolific weed and because it’s easy to recognize and has a very distinctive very medicinal smell to it it has been a popular herb for thousands of years. In the Iliad the Greek warrior Achilles uses it to treat battlefield injuries. In my own lifetime I’ve used it on bullet wounds and shrapnel wounds, but also injuries from industrial accidents and power tools; injuries from broken glass in car wrecks; bumps and scrapes from sports; and a whole host of other topical uses. Were it not for the pandemic I would be providing first aid at #Playthink movement and flow arts festival this weekend, and would probably be using some Yarrow.. . . Tincture of green soap. It consists of a vegetable oil based soap dissolved in an alcohol solution (basically the name says it all). It’s my favourite thing for getting the oils from poison ivy off of the skin while you’re out in the woods. Using this as step one and crushed fresh jewelweed as step two of a post-exposure precaution against poison ivy is a pretty thorough way to prevent a rash. . . . . #healing #soap #tincture #medictent #playthink

Bug spray made with water, alcohol, and the essential oils of lemon eucalyptus and geranium. Good for preventing mosquito and tick bites. This is the finished product of the aloe and vanilla burn gel that we make. It has a purplish tinge to it, but not really as purple as it appears here. Even though we had people walking in hot coals, breathing fire, spinning flaming poi and hoops, and various other on-fire props, it mostly saw service for people who had sun burns.
