idk how this headcanon prompting thing works but talk about andreil and forehead kisses and knuckle kisses (bless nora)
ANON I DONE MESSED UP. I had two posts to share and when I edited them I mixed them annnnd you got mostly the wrong one DX Okay I’M FIXING IT NOW.
It starts around the time of Aaron’s trial. Andrew had prepared as best he could for the mental upheaval he knew would come with it. But he also knew the meetings with Bee, the time spent fortifying his mental barriers, all of it could only mitigate the damage. The blows would still hurt when they fell.
So it wasn’t a surprise to him that he woke up in the middle of the night covered head to toe with sweat, choking on memories.
The surprise came in the shadow figure of Neil Josten kneeling in the dark near his bed, and Neil’s pillow slipping slowly off Andrew’s chest.
The pillow finally hitting the floor is what broke his silence.
“Did you just,” his voice was rough like he’d been screaming (but only in his mind only in his mind) “hit me with your pillow.”
It wasn’t a question even though his brain was still moving to slow for him to be certain.
“I threw it at you.” Neil said, an admission and a correction. He shrugged but didn’t apologize for it.
They’d both been quiet. The darkness and Kevin’s unconscious presence made it easy to want to be quiet. But Andrew’s ragged breathing felt impossibly loud.
Later, it would occur to Andrew that he hadn’t felt threatened by the shadowy figure in the dark, even before he’d recognized Neil. The form had been too small. Not the looming shapes he’d known invading his bedside.
Later, he would realize this was why Neil had knelt there. And Andrew would hate him a little more.
For a few minutes, Andrew’s harsh gasps are the only sounds in the room, before Neil breaks it.
And that’s how Neil ends up kneeling on his pillow beside Andrew’s bed, his hand held in Andrew’s harsh grip.
Andrew couldn’t have his weight in the bed, not then. But he could have this.
As Andrew pulled their joined hands beneath his cheek, Neil realized it hadn’t really been his hand Andrew had been after
In the pitch black, with memories- perfectly-recalled- so close to the surface, it was too easy for his eyes to lie to him. To become confused for the split second it took for the fear to overtake him.
But Neil’s hand, the back of it, specifically, with all it’s scars, could never be mistaken for anyone’s but his.
In the dark with his eyes shut tight, Andrew would still know he wasn’t alone here. With Neil’s damaged hand pressed to his skin, Andrew could know that, now, that was a good thing.
It was only a couple hours to sunrise at that point, and that was how they spent them. Neil stayed there through his normal run, and neither of them moved until Kevin’s blaring alarm went off.
Then, Andrew shifted. He brought his lips to each of Neil’s knuckles. He didn’t kiss them so much as let his lips rest against each one.
Andrew didn’t have to speak for Neil to understand what he meant.
“Thank you.” and “I’m glad you’re here.” and “you’re damaged but that helped me” all wrapped up into something neither of them would have been able to put into words anyway.
Neil didn’t speak. He just tugged Andrew’s hand to him, and pressed his own cheek against it.
Andrew didn’t need words to understand that either.
Okay sooooo those are my thoughts on the knuckle kisses! I have some thoughts on the forehead kisses but this is already hella long. BUt totally drop me an ask if you want the forehead kisses on later! That one’s more Neil oriented. Sooo yeah! Hope you enjoyed anon!
