hey, why do you think a bookblr + writeblr would be a bad idea? this is a genuine question, I have no opinion on the matter currently and am trying to find out more. don't feel like you have to answer, I'm just curious

I don’t think that having both a writeblr and booklr is a bad idea (that would be highly hypocritical), but I do think that “combining” the concepts of writeblr and booklr would result in something shitty. 

(This doesn’t include personal blogs that are both writeblrs and booklrs, obviously.)

I don’t think this is a thing that will happen (or at least I hope not), but I’ve seen a few posts wishing for this and I think it’s a terrible idea.

The most obvious thing is that they’re completely different groups with different dynamics and different purposes. The only thing they have in common is books, except one side is writing them and the other one is reading them, so even there there’s a disconnect.

Writeblr exists so writers can find and interact with each other. Mostly they document the writing journey and personal stuff. Sometimes they’re there so the writer can advertise themself and find potential readers.

Booklr exists to write reviews post aesthetics and memes, and share the love for books. One is a creator, the other one is a consumer. 

(And obviously there’s a lot of overlap and grey areas, but I’m making this very black and white so I can illustrate my point.)

I think that there should be a greater separation between creators and consumers, and merging writeblr and booklr would eliminate that wall. 

Can you imagine? Instead of talking quietly about our books and exchange tips and hype, writeblrs would now have fans who wrote memes and discourse and fanfics and meta about stuff that’s not even out yet.

And when that stuff does come out, imagine the outrage as people feel like the final product isn’t what they expected it to be. People would have impossible standards and explode when it turns out that the writer is actually just a person doing their thing.

Writers also tend to read differently than readers, they learn to take apart what they read and inspect it to see what works and what doesn’t. Booklr is more about characters and ships and squee, and since booklr is also bigger than writeblr, I imagine what would happen if a writer came out saying they didn’t like a popular ship or thought a book was badly written and what would happen then.

I’m not saying that booklr is evil, but since it’s bigger and more chaotic, I don’t think that combining it with writeblr would bring much good. 

These are just hypothetical conclusions, of course. I don’t think writeblr and booklr could fully combine, nor do I necessarily think that everything would burn to shit if it did. 

But I always expect the worst.

And honestly? I like writeblr for what it is. It’s the nicest community on Tumblr that I’ve personally been a part of. *insert quote from Lilo & Stitch here*
