Played the first case of Investigations with my siblings a little while ago and we ended up making jokes that spiraled into in-character improv that went wildly off the rails. So I doodled some of the stuff we came up with!

Edgeworth has recently become a psychic vampire (he refuses to explain how) and Gumshoe is a cyborg who can switch to “4 arms mode” and can also turn into a car. No I cannot explain why we came to those character choices. It just happened,

Also my sister was doing the voice for Maggey and did a bit about falling into a ditch and it just spiraled from there into whatever this joke is

Anyway it was really fun! I wish I could play the whole game with them and continue these bits, but I’m back at college now and my workload makes it so I don’t have super consistent free time for it. Maybe when I visit home I’ll replay the cases with them. Hope y’all enjoyed these!

Anyways, here are my Gavin parents interpretation (also some random headcannons about them under the cut) :)

-Did I steal my friend’s headcannon that Klavier is Filipino? Yes, absolutely. Anyways-

-Also, yes, I am one of those people that thinks Kristoph bleaches his hair. I think he was jealous of Klavier’s hair color because it’s closer to their father’s hair.

-Klavier’s birth name is “Konrad Klavier Gavin Jr.” making his father Konrad Senior. His mother chose his middle name (she had a very loose understanding of the German language and didn’t know that Klavier meant piano). Everyone called him Klavier in his youth as to not mix him and his father up, but he ended up liking it better than Konrad and just decided to go by his middle name.

-they grew up in America, but in a very secluded community of German immigrants. Klavier and Kristoph were homeschooled and spoke German at home (and a little Tagalog thanks to their mother) resulting in Klavier’s weird accent.

Finally watched Frieren and now I'm wishing we had more solid magic system worldbuilding for Devil May Cry. I mean, fuck, I know things are kinda Better because things are as vague as it is, but also... *eyes Frieren's use/evolution of Zoltraak with envy*

Some DMC alchemist being able to do that with a big demon lord (like the Lowell family and Abigail) would be So Cool.

i must be honest, i don’t know a single thing about Frieren. not a single thing at all.

HOWEVER. i have constantly thought about how lacking the magic system in dmc is. like, how does any of that work? why isn’t it used more often? why does Dante never bring it up? at times i even doubted magic and aspects like that were canon (i.e., demonic possession and rituals), or i thought i’d made it all up in my head.

but no. it’s just offhandedly mentioned a few times in the 07 anime and some of the games. and never expanded upon. why???

simple answer: capcom is lazy and/or rushed. too many ideas, not enough time to tie it all together.

it is beyond disappointing that they clearly have a massive story they want to tell but limit themselves to 20 missions and little to no impactful scenes between characters beyond just fighting. and then they cancel more additional material (Lady’s dmc3 manga edition) and refuse to provide official translations (every novel and manga ever).

for god’s sake, even Metal Gear Rising had the options for mountains of extra, optional dialogue. another very in your face game, that knows when to provide players with something extra. not the greatest example, but relevant anyhow.

something like that would have been lovely.

the downsides are that we’re left with a multitude of half-baked concepts and disappointing outcomes. it’s nice that it’s open for interpretation but goddamn i am sick of everything in dmc being open to interpretation.

the Lowell family are a good example of something being relevant for two seconds and then being completely shafted.

more world building and magic exploration in general would be fantastic.

side note: it’s genuinely hilarious that to prove any claim about dmc lore, you have to find the most obscure interview with itsuno to ever exist where he says one or two things that completely changes the story. and then there’s another three sources that directly contradict that anyways, so you’re fucked either way.
