A Quick and Random Rant
So I roleplay a lot. I love roleplaying all sorts of characters. My own oc's in particular are fun to roleplay. There's always an element of "self insert" with oc's. Or, with mine at least.
Something that really bugs me with roleplay though, is when someone instantly remedies a problem. It happens all the time with my characters. For example, my most used character is Gwen, a half demon with her strongest magical ability being manipulation of glass. Now, this particular character is part of a big universe of other characters I have made with my friend, and as such she is a very well made and fleshed out character. In my opinion at least. In our lore for said universe, being a demon is fucking strenuous. Each demon has a set of different forms that grants them more strength and power etc, as well as physical changes. Gwen, being half demon, has three stages, three forms to grant her power. The first reveals her horns and makes her teeth sharper, the second opens a second set of eyes under her original pair, and the third pulls out her wings. I won't go into much more detail on that for fear of tangent. Going into these three forms has consequences. With the first, she tends to have pretty bad migraines for a day two following, the second is migraines with added nausea and some very sore eyes and unpleasant eyes strain. Usually after this she is also very fatigued as well.
Now, Gwen is stupid. She constantly goes to the second stage of her demon powers despite the consequences, and this is a plot point that has come up in a lot of one on one roleplays I've had with people. Every time, without, the person I'm roleplaying with, will either god mode their character and remedy it with a gentle touch of their fucking palm, or "Hey lucky you, I have this very special option designed specifically to cure these issues specific to your race of demon!!"
And just... it's annoying? Like, I'm trying to introduce some plot ideas to you, and they're basically being thwarted in favour of smut? Oh yeah that's the other thing, these people always push actual plot ideas aside or fix them quickly just so they can get straight to the smut rp. Which to be honest, sometimes I don't mind that. But sometimes, I want a long running roleplay with twists and turns and excitement and WHUMP! All the glorious whump! Sometimes I want character development, I want to see a relationship and dynamic flourish between two characters.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't rush plot points in roleplay? Allow the character/s in question to suffer, to celebrate, to love, to hate. Allow them a chance to feel real.
