No one ever thought that Peridot was ever going to fall in love with a defective gem, much less have one defend her. But the defective ruby was one of the fiercest fighters for Peridot. No one knew how it ended up happening, but one day White Ruby and Peridot fused on accident, creating Kyanite. The defective gem was never happier than being where she knew she was finally accepted. Oh, they had their troubles. Peridot thought far too much, wheras White Ruby[soon nicknamed ivory to avoid confusion] was impulsive and tended to kill first, ask questions later. She would do anything, face anything to keep the rude girl she loved so much alive. On the day the worst was to happen, no one could have possibly known. Garnet was the only one who knew thanks to her future sight, but Ruby and Sapphire knew that to speak and prevent Ivory's fate was to sign the death warrant for all of them. Ivory and Peridot were hanging out on the beach together. Peridot read aloud from Harry Potter, while Ivory clumsily peiced together a few flower crowns. Finally she made a perfect pair- a red rose in the center with two white roses on either side. Daisies were lined on the rest of the crown, with little forget-me-nots woven in. When Ivory presented Peridot with the crown, placing it on her head, Peridot's face flushed a deeper shade of green. Ivory placed her own on her head, aware that white flames were licking at her toes due to her embarrassment.
"M'lady."Ivory said with a mock bow, offering her arm to Peridot. "May I have this dance?"
Peridot smiled and set the book aside, taking Ivory's hand."You may."
A song began to play, a grin spreading across Ivory's face. Ivory gently laid her other hand on top of Peridot's, and then the two gems were dancing, Ivory spinning Peridot away from her and then pulling her in close, dancing to the country song.
"Hey,pretty lady, won't you give me a smile, God knows you're just one of a kind..." The song brought a smile to Peridot's face. Ivory's red eyes were shining happily as the two danced around the beach, not a care in the world. Then... Disaster struck. A roar rose up from the ocean, and it appeared. It was a gem mutant the likes of which they had never seen. There were mashed up fragments of gems scattered all over its body. The thing had five eyes and six arms. It scuttled around on spiderlike legs. The sight of it froze Peridot in the shock of it all. She would have been crushed underfoot if not for Ivory leaping in front of her, pushing Them both out of the way. Then she stood, pulling a stocky sword out of her gem. Before too long Steven and the others were right in front of the fight, Garnet staying away from Ivory. The defective gem was stubborn, staying firmly in front of Peridot to keep her safe. Her clear red eyes were focused on the abomination as she ran around it, desperately hacking and stabbing. Connie was beside her, but the only one who seemed to be getting through its thick hide was Garnet. Ivory and Peridot came to the realization at the same time racing b
was Garnet. Ivory and Peridot came to the realization at the same time, racing between the spiderlegs to the other gems. "We need to fuse with each other or we're never going to beat it." Ivory explained in a rush. Garnet was already a fusion, so that left three clear pairs. Steven and Connie joined hands, whirling between the monster legs. A bright flash of pink brought Stevonnie to the scene, sword and shield in hand. Pearl and Amethyst were next, Amethyst whacking Pearl's head off the ground as they formed Opal. Ivory turned to Peridot, reaching out her hand. The two gems danced for the space of a few moments in a circle, Kyanite then standing tall and proud. It wore Peridot's limb enhancers and carried Ivory's sword, and it sped so quickly parrying and fighting with the other gems. Nothing else mattered but defeating the mutant so Beach City and the gems would be safe. Kyanite went for a high jump and landed on the monster's back, plunging White Ruby's sword into

with a battle cry. The abomination made a roar somewhere between pain and rage, throwing Kyanite off to hit her head on the ground. The gem immeadiately leaped up again. Realizing its first sword was still in the monster, Kyanite reached for the gem on her arm to draw out another one- and was knocked backwards, into the cliff wall. The monster fusion was engrossed in rage, bent on killing them. The blow made them dizzy, the fusion they were breaking apart, Ivory collapsing on the ground. She struggled to get up, to open her eyes... Only to see the beast advancing on Peridot. A scream of rage tore its way out of White Ruby's throat, drawing the sword out of her gem as she raced towards Peridot. Throwing herself in between the gem and the beast, she drove the sword straight for the beasts heart- and made it. The thing exploded into various fragments, which were quickly bubbled and sent to the lockdown room. Cheers rose up and quickly died as a scream rose above them all. All eyes turned towards Peridot who held a flickering Ivory in her arms. Everyone rushed over t
towards Peridot, who held a flickering Ivory in her arms. Everyone rushed over to see some bloodlike substance oozing out of a deep wound on Ivory's chest, the white gem on its forearm revealing a deep crack down it. It was breaking. Ivory was clearly in pain, but she smiled hazily and touched Peridot's face, wiping away the tears that fell.
"You clod."Peridot whispered. "Why did you do this?"
"I couldn't let it hurt you." Ivory returned. "Sing to me, please?"
Peridot raised her eyes towards the sunlight, asking the stars for strength. She traced Ivory's face and smiled shakily, still crying as she began the song.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...You make me happy, when skies are gray. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you..." Ivory's form dissapeared. The gem cracked in Peridot's hands, splitting in two, and the gem doubled over them."Please... Don't take my sunshine away."
