Bias and Prejudice in The Home Arcade Hobby
If there's one thing I can count on the internet is that in certain comment areas its the worst comments that rise to the top.
TBH, I have my own critcisms of A1UP and their products but a lot of the comments made about their cabs now that they are closing are downright incorrect at best, prejudiced at worse (and yes that can be a thing in hobbies not just politics).
As in:
The act or state of holding unreasonable preconceived judgments or convictions.
An adverse judgment or opinion formed unfairly or without knowledge of the facts."a boy with a prejudice against unfamiliar foods."
Examples:
"OG Games Win After all"
They weren't losing before and people weren't buying home arcade cabinets instead of them and that wont change. Also, even home arcade cabinets run the OG roms typically with the OG control panel layouts.
"Good. Junk MDF wayfair cabinets that fall apart if you move them"
All modern home furniture is fabricated like that and none of it falls apart when you move it provided you built it correctly to the instructions and tighten up the parts.
"Thank God"
"God" has nothing to do with it and if there is one probably doesn't have anything against home arcade cabinets whatsoever.. you're just showing your bias.
"Aww a junk toycompany is going under. Maybe because the art work smears off as soon as you touch it? When you make junk, it don't last.."
1) The artwork is replacable and the alternives are commercial grade
2) It's not that bad.. Does this person have extra acidic finger oils and tends to rub their hands aggresively on the cabs?
Even vintage cabs artwork wears off in places given a certain amount of roughness in their treatment and even after a couple of years all mine are pristine in the artwork department..
This is only a sampling but TBH it kinda gives me deja vu to how they speak about other things they disagree with or don't understand. Like LGBTQ+ people.. where they thank their deities for them losing their rights in certain regions and things like that.
I guess that's one reason why the saying is never to check the comments sections.
Lastly,
Vintage Vault: "You can get your fix over here at the arcade"
1) A lot of people living in your area probably do that anyway especially because there's the social aspect they might be after even if they have nothing but commercial vintag cabs at home.
2) Home Arcades of all stripes wont suddenly disappear just because A1UP went under.. even if they have nothing but A1UP cabinets in them. And if the worst happens and all the cabs just stop working there's always options for repair provided the owner decides to keep them which they might!
Also, there's a few home arcade companies still in operation as well as more expensive options not to mention second hand and vintage cabinets that are always a choice for home arcades depending on ones level of budget and know how.. this is NOT the end of home arcade.. just a little speed bump!
TBH, I plan on keeping all mine and continuing to work on them until they are as perfect as I can get them and I will continue to maintain them using everything that's available to me. That's actually what I've been doing before A1UP closed and isn't changing after.

Maple Street Biscuit Company is the latest restaurant chain to shutter multiple locations in what continues to be a challenging time for the food service industry.
Cracker Barrel, the parent company of the breakfast joint, shared the news in its latest earnings call, which included details about the company’s fourth quarter financial results and a full-year fiscal update.
Microsoft & Xbox shut down multiple Bethesda studios, including the makers of Hi-Fi Rush
Xbox has made a shocking announcement that multiple Bethesda studios are being closed. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Tango Gameworks is being shuttered. While not a commercial powerhouse, Tango Gameworks has produced several beloved games such as Ghostwire Tokyo, but is probably best known for last year’s Hi-Fi Rush which launched to nothing but positivity from critics and gamers alike.…

Borrowing a Skirt: Vogue 2530
This is the skirt which harmonizes so well with the Capelet Tank that i featured last Monday. I made it from a 2001 pattern offers both a straight skirt and a half-circle skirt, and I have taken to borrowing the latter whenever I want a flared skirt. I then use a waistband taken from another pattern. I substituted the buttons down the back in favor of zipper. (Buttons there are truly a terrible idea for a dress closure as you must both lean on them and sit on them when in a chair--ouch). I have made this skirt with and without the hem flounce for spring and summer skirts. And I have noticed how fabrics with different levels of drape create a wider or more slender silhouettes
The most slender is this rayon crepe in a print that is really large. Such a print would overwhelm my frame unless pared down to a skirt, and I made it ankle length so I didn’t have to cut up the flower motifs any more than was necessary. Placing such large motifs is always tricky. (Question for fabric designers: Why not shrink all these over-sized prints and make everyone’s dressmaking easier?). I got rid of the center back and front seams, and placed one large, complete flower on the right hip.
I underlined the rayon print with a Bemberg rayon lining and came to regret that choice. Although both were rayon, the crepe was far heavier than the underlining and they each stretched a different amount as they hung waiting to be hemmed. So they were level at the seamlines and then off by inches at various points around bottom edge, so the hemming was tricky. Even in the photo it looks uneven though it looks fine when worn. Next time I will make a separate lining.
BTW, I have also made the halter dress, although that was years ago now. And learned from that to muslin halter tops as shoulder length and squareness of shoulders affects the fit as much as mere bust size.
This pattern is out of print, but half-circle skirts appear in many patterns, or you could also simply draft a half circle.
For the first time in years, I forgot it was your birthday.
And how I wasn't going to wish you.
I was too busy being happy.
I think I'm finally clean.
