my stupid chud son that i hate
people who say “the fandom ruined the ship for me” are soooo fucking weird to me. imagine letting your opinion about fiction be formed by the behaviour of strangers online rather than by the actual content???? finding a fandom annoying is completely understandable and valid but letting that change your own feelings about the actual show/ship is concerning and i genuinely cannot follow the logic
Finally , Just Us

˚‧⁺ ・ ˖ ·˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ ˚‧⁺ ・ ˖ ·˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ ˚‧⁺ ・ ˖ ·˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ ˚‧⁺ ・ ˖ The night had been loud from the moment you walked into Max’s place.
Nick was the first one you saw, already sitting crosslegged on the floor with a controller in hand, swearing that he hadn’t been practicing before everyone got there. Jacob was leaning against the counter, laughing at him, while Ethan was balancing a pizza box on his lap and trying to convince everyone that pineapple on pizza really wasn’t that bad. Whitt had his phone out, recording Max’s dramatic reaction to the whole argument like it was the funniest thing he’d ever seen.
And Max..well, Max was right in the middle of it.
He was pacing around with his hands in the air, his voice loud enough to probably bother the neighbors, saying, “There is no way on Earth I’m letting you people eat pineapple pizza in my apartment! This is my reputation on the line!”
You sat at the far end of the couch, knees tucked up, trying not to laugh too hard at how dramatic he was being. He noticed you, of course. Max always noticed. Even when the room was busy, even when his friends were pulling him in every direction, he kept sneaking glances at you. It was like he was checking to make sure you were okay in all the noise. Every time your eyes met, he grinned. That big, boyish grin that made your stomach flip no matter how many times you saw it.
The night went on like that. Laughter, games, food disappearing way too fast. Whitt tried to mimic Max’s stream intro again, which nearly made Ethan choke from laughing. Nick got way too competitive during Mario Kart, and Max fake fainted across the carpet after losing a round. But through it all, he kept drifting toward you. Sitting beside you for a minute, bumping your knee with his, tossing you a soda out of nowhere. Then he’d bounce back into the chaos again, like a pinball, only to return later.
It wasn’t until Jacob stood and stretched that things started to calm down. “Alright,” he said, grabbing his hoodie, “we’re out. Before Max makes us do something dumb at two in the morning.” “I don’t make you,” Max shot back, pretending to look offended. “I invite you. Big difference.” “Sure,” Nick said, pulling his shoes on. “See you guys,” Ethan added, waving.
Whitt pointed at Max. “Don’t keep her up all night talking about your ongoing music career.”
Max gasped. “First of all, rude. Second of all, I’ll have you know—” But the door shut before he could finish. The apartment went quiet.
Max turned on his heel immediately, his eyes landing on you. A grin spread across his face, softer this time, and he said, “Finally.” You blinked. “Finally what?” He threw himself onto the couch beside you, nearly knocking you over in the process. “Finally alone time. I’ve been waiting for them to leave all night.” You raised a brow. “You literally invited them.” “Yeah, and I love them, don’t get me wrong,” he said quickly, already wrapping an arm around your shoulders like he was making sure you couldn’t slip away. “But you’re my girlfriend. And I like you better.”
Your face heated immediately, and of course he noticed. His grin turned mischievous. “You’re blushing again.” “Max…” you mumbled, hiding your face in your hands. He laughed, gently tugging your hands down so he could see you. “Don’t hide! It’s cute. Seriously, every time you turn red, It feels like I won in life again.” You groaned, but your lips twitched into a smile anyway. He pulled you into his chest, adjusting until you were curled against him. “There we go,” he muttered, satisfied. “That’s what I wanted. Just this.” You rested your head on his hoodie, breathing in the faint smell of his shampoo. “You’re so dramatic.” You rolled your eyes, but your heart was pounding.
For once, Max wasn’t bouncing off the walls or yelling at the top of his lungs. His voice was quieter, softer, but still so very him. His hand rubbed small circles on your arm, and every so often he shifted like he couldn’t get close enough. After a long moment, he spoke again. “You know,” he said, “I think this is better than gaming.” You tilted your head up to look at him. “Better than gaming?” He nodded solemnly. “Better than gaming.” Then he smirked. “Don’t tell Nick, though. He’d cry.” You laughed, shaking your head. “You’re impossible.” “And you’re stuck with me,” he shot back quickly, tightening his arms around you.
There was a beat of silence before he added, in a quieter voice, “This is my favorite part of the day. Just you and me. No noise. No chat. No one yelling at me for stealing the last slice of pizza.” Your chest ached in that sweet, warm way, and you pressed closer to him. “Mine too.” He smiled at that, leaning down to kiss your temple. “Good,” he whispered. “Because I’m never letting you go.” And he meant it. You could feel it in the way he held you. Like the chaos of the world could keep spinning, but right here, right now, he had exactly what he wanted.
Just you. Just the two of you.
Finally.
