The continuing catch up story....
So where was I before we were so rudely interrupted by a steak?
Right so a bit of my history.... I have literally been overweight since before I can remember. I first noticed when I was in grade 5 (primary school) that I was bigger than everyone else, but fat wasn't really a concept to me... I just assumed I was bigger, not because I was on my way to what I am now. I also mentioned that both my mother and grandmother are around my size, my sister thinks she is overweight, but she just isn't stick thin... my father and grandfather on the other side of my family are also a little bit overweight. I believe that the biggest problem for me is that by the time I noticed I was actually unhealthily big, I probably would have been in like year 6, I think I weighed about 110kg when I was like 11... and by that stage I didn't know what dieting and exercise could really do for me, so I just didn't do anything and let it get worse... I was a pretty healthy child so I am still confused how I got to that point... I played netball (pretty well) at least 3 times a week and swam once a week, not to mention walking my kelpie once a day... and my mother ordered my lunch for me which was a salad with warm chicken from the canteen every day... So yeah.. confused.
I haven't weighed myself since the surgeon consultation like 2 weeks ago, but at that point I think I weighed 136kg, which is the heaviest I have ever been and for the first time in my life I weigh more than my mother. (I will weigh myself tomorrow maybe to know where I am at now).
I think I will do another post about the surgery and what I have been asked to do etc and anything I feel like saying about it.
I can tell you a bit about what I have tried in the past to lose weight. Since I started high school I was on and off dieting and some of these worked really well.
I think the first intense diet I did was Light'n'easy... I lost about 20kgs with that diet, which I did for around 12 months. L'n'E was good in some ways, like putting your food in the microwave and eating it was super quick and easy, they changed their meals with the season and got me to taste some new types of food. Its downfalls are just that, it was microwaved food. I didn't have to learn why I was eating what I was eating, shop for myself, cook for myself, it was done for me, so losing weight was not trouble on that, but when I stopped I had no idea what to do. It is also rather expensive to maintain. I also got to the point where the thought of eating another microwave meal made me want to vomit, so I just wasn't eating any of it... Anyway, sure enough I put that all back on quite quickly.
I tried the Xenical/Orlistat (I think that is its name) capsules... They did nothing for me, only because I just could not maintain that life.. Without going into too much information... There was a lot of toileting, toilet cleaning, smelling a little weird and a few ruined pairs of underwear (a side effect is a bit of leaking). So if you can deal with that then more power to you!
The main one I will recommend though is Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation program. I think it cost $200 and my mother and sister did it with me. The reason I like this one is because it taught you healthy lifestyle things. It tried to get you to exercise everyday, with videos she put up. It gave you a shopping list and recipes every week to follow, showing you what to buy and how to make things. I lost 20kgs on that as well and felt that I got fitter. It really teaches you how to deal with life after the 12 weeks. My family still eat almost entirely from those recipes.
I think that is all I was going to say at the moment... If anyone is/does read this, feel free to ask questions.
