Katherine's Reaction: PLL 7x06 "Wanted Dead Or Alive" (SPOILERS)
Wow. Okay. So I loved and hated this episode. It was so well done, the acting was good. It was scary. Loved all that.
First, three reasons why I love that Ali got the red coat back. One, because that’s just an A-move to ice Ali out and that’s what Uber A should want. Two, Ali’s history as red coat. Three, by giving Ali the coat back, AD is pretty much saying Ali didn’t kill Charlotte. Spencer saying “I don’t care if you’re pissed at us, I care that you’re safe.” really sums up the Liars and their bond. The Liars have done really horrible terrible things and they have been through things even worse than that, but they still really love each other.
Honestly, I don’t love Detective Fury as a character. I don’t trust newcomers to Rosewood, and definitely not cops. He is putting the pieces together (no matter how bizarre those pieces are the moment) much too fast for Rosewood PD. Remember it took them a year to find Ali’s body only for it to not be Ali? Marco is going to find something, and it won’t be good for the Liars when he does. On the other hand, he’s putting the pieces together so fast I wonder he’s not in on something with somebody. He seems to know an awful lot about about what Archer Dunhill/Elliot Rollins is thinking/planning. Also, he asked Spencer of she had something against law enforcement but the last time he saw her she was visiting Toby, who reports to him. He clearly knows that they’re friends. Why ask that question at all?
This is kinda an off note, but just wanted to talk about Ezra briefly. His scenes are so interesting. With the exception of Aria, Toby and Caleb, Ezra and the Liars seem stuck in this awkward personal-student-teacher-vortex-of-social-appropriateness. They never seem sure if they should have personal conversations and it’s really not helped by the fact Spencer keeps thinking he’s A, or a murderer.
I adored all the Mary Drake scenes. May and Jessica seem to be showing reverse character development of each other. Jessica started as a character we felt very bad for and over time became this lying cheating manipulative character. Mary started out as the bad twin, A’s birth mothe, but she’s slowly becoming a character we can feel sympathy for. I loved the scene at the Lost Woods Resort with Spencer. I really felt like she was scared of Elliot. I also really loved the scene with Ali, which started out snarky (“You should know better than to take things from my mother.”) And morphed into this really touching moment that Mary realizes that Charlotte might’ve known about her somehow. Loved seeing Mary’s scar.
I always felt like as much as we all adore #TeamSparia, Hanna and Aria are really close and Spencer and Emily make a great little team. Hanna and Aria really were awesome tonight and they told each other about each other’s #engagementissues.
The Jenna scenes were spectacular as always. Jenna just happened to reach out to Charlotte of all people? Where did she even read about Charlotte, she’s blind. But anyways… Jenna knows stuff. She was invested in Archer and Charlotte’s relationship. Bet she was pissed when she found out Ali married him. Sara and Jenna’s mutual partnership didn’t last long and idk if Jenna just considers herself more of a cripple or what, but Jenna was clearly in charge.
Okay the reason I hated this episode? Spaleb parted ways. Spaleb is my favorite couple on the show and I’m still hoping things will work out there. I loved that Spencer talked a bit about breaking up with Toby and how that felt and how Caleb changed that for her. I just loved and hated the entire scene.
I loved the scene with Ali and Emily. Not because of Emison or anything, but just because of the line “Loved me? I didn’t even know she had a boyfriend. And then I married him.” Mostly because this is a typical Ali line and i can already see the old Ali returning a little bit at a time.
The scene with the cop in the mask who is Archer/Elliot was so good. The fight with Ali was scary and the writing on the wall “HONEY I’M HOME” was so A-like and creepy and snarky. Loved it.
I loved that Aria told Ezra about hitting Rollins. I think that’s what Spencer should have done with Caleb like Hanna told her. But the second time around proposal was just as adorable as the first time and we can hear wedding bells now.
I loved that Hanna and Spencer talked more this episode. #Spanna. And I loved that Hanna told Spencer about the dream of Spencer she had in the premiere. Going back to dig up Rollins was a bad idea, I’m thinking Rollins has a twin or brother (cough Wren Kingston cough) who is behind all the Rollins sightings.
What did Sara want to warn Emily about? Why would she want to warn Emily about anything, after last week where she made her feelings for the Liars very clear? Did Jenna realize Sara was going to talk and kill her? So many questions about this death. Especially since Sara and Jenna's stories have been mirrors, with the Liars crippling them, escorts to a DiLaurentis daughter funeral a dramatic manner, snarky hatred...
Loved this episode so much! It was fantastically written and acted. Can’t wait for next week! Katherine
