So I know that this statement by Tyler had to do with Pretty Little Liars (#PLLChat) and it was a while ago, BUT I think it currently applies to Roswell as well... and what’s going on with Malex 100%.
It hurts, so badly, but we know Michael is hurting right now and is trying to break their cycle, the one he thinks brings pain. “But lately, that love hurts...”
So when he left Alex, he was making a choice for a change even if it’s temporary because HELLO, have you seen the soulmates that are Malex?!
The love he has with Alex, will never go away. He said it himself. However, I think Michael needs to get into a different headspace for a while so he can fully commit and be the man he wants to be for Alex. So he can realize that they can heal and grow together, that Alex isn’t walking away again, that he meant it when he said he doesn’t look away. Alex loves him and wants all in, and I think that scares Michael to death. Right now anyway, even though deep down, it’s all he’s ever wanted.
He’s in a very fragile place right now; extremely vulnerable and one walk away, one confession, one anything—could break Michael completely. I don’t think he can take that risk right now, even though it most likely kills him to go to someone else (still don’t like that he has to go to someone else aka the bff *sigh*). But he wants something easy, not the painful challenge that their relationship tends to bring, or has until this point. He’s going to try and move forward, but even though he “embraces change,” like the quote states, “doesn’t mean letting go of love or erasing the past.”
As usual, their timing is just... off. They aren’t on the same page. They never have been. But I truly believe during season 2, they’ll slowly start to find that same page—TOGETHER, for the first time since they met. And even though that love will never fade, that will be the whole falling in love all over again.
Because remember, Michael never truly looks away (that’s the whole: not really), even if he’s with someone else. For him, it’ll always be Alex Manes. Their love is too deep and cosmic to just move on. He’ll try to fight it, but it’ll be useless. You cannot fight true love. And at the end of the day, “the pieces want to be together.”
Just you watch, that will be the main theme of season 2 for Malex. And I truly believe that once they get together, fully and committed with a foundation of love, friendship and trust, they’ll never walk away from each other again.
