The Kendra (Ella) Thing - PLL
So, since I’ve always been snobbed for thinking Ella had something to do with A (read here, here and here), and since the latest episode made her look suspicious to most, I am obviously overthinking it.
Anyway, isn’t it odd what happened with Kendra? I mean, there’s a murder trial for the killing of a girl who was at Kendra’s school, supposedly carried out by another girl who was at her school, but she didn’t feel the need to speak up and say that she heard Ali at the park, so she can’t have committed an homicide. Isn’t it weird? If not for the love of justice, one guesses she’d do it to protect herself, since there’s a murderer around who kills people her same age.
Anyway, we’re supposed to believe she was on speed so she didn’t want to say anything. She didn’t really have to say she was on speed though, did she? She could just go to the police and say she was hanging there. And by the way that’s the story Ella told us, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. Furthermore, why tell Ella? I know she mentioned the “favourite teacher” thing but Kendra is part of a Church group, she probably could have relied on God or some Church person. Even if she wanted to talk to somebody at school, why not the counselor?
Anyway, Kendra was so freaked out she didn’t feel the need to say anything, but once Ella calls her, she runs to Spencer’s (not to the police, not to Ali’s house, not to Ali’s lawyers, not to Mona’s parents, BUT to Spencer’s house) to tell everything. Her parents didn’t matter any longer, she was fine with talking about her being on speed once Ella told her to speak up. Conveniently enough, her story is of no help at all and she’s off the hook. So is Ella, and Ali is found guilty of murder.
So, Ella knew Kendra was at the park, but didn’t mention anything to anybody, not even to save Hanna. She said she didn’t say anything because Kendra asked her not to, and then it took her one second to tell the whole speed story. I guess Kendra’s secret was no longer valuable? What was the need of the speed specification to Aria? If Ella were really concerned about Kendra then she could have just told Aria it was a personal matter and then talk Kendra into speaking up. But no. She set the basis for having Kendra’s presence invalidated.
After a conversation where Ella showed to be more than a little annoyed with Aria, resentful to Ali and careless about Hanna, and where she clearly specified Aria NEEDED to separate herself from Ali, the whole Kendra thing resolved in a second, in a way that couldn’t help anybody but A. Kendra went to the girls and was helpless, because of the whole speed thing.
Once again, Ella might not be Big A, but she’s so in it.
