I was hoping for once I would really like the ending of one of my favourite TV shows... but after hearing what Tyler said I'm worried that's not going to happen with PLL. Obviously Haleb wasn't going to be completely smooth sailing...but come on, we had to deal with all that Spaleb crap and then wait ages for them to actually get back together. Now knowing it's not going to end the way we want is really sad. I was hoping to at least see Calebs proposal because - let's be honest - it would be the best one because he's so emotional ;) but now I'm scared we won't even get that!! How come its always about Ezria anyway? I mean, it was obvious they were gonna have the perfect ending as the writers favourite, but it's so bias and annoying! All the couples deserve to have equally amazing endings :(
I’m looking forward to what the next few episodes will bring. I am really beginning to dig this timeline jump because in some ways it does feel like a reboot of the show. I do hope the girls gain a more of an aggressive approach towards the situation because they know how the game goes at this point, I’m hoping to see Alison really take a bigger role in the friendship of the 5 because shes obviously lost an entire family which was already broken and is very lonely and really just needs that kind of relationship which puts her in a perfect place for whatever sketchiness Rollins aggressive self is up to. “A” loves all his dolls but what I’ve noticed is that with Alison there is an isolation piece to it, almost like a mental version of the dollhouse, this person has managed to control everything around Alison to the point where she has no one. As for the girls, I’m very content with Hannah’s character and her relationship with Jordan and standing up to her boss, she always had guts and were really seeing a stronger Hannah developing. Spencer, I’m enjoying seeing her with Caleb a lot. Although, I don’t see it lasting long. We all know Spencer is the most intelligent of the group (Alison might be neck and neck with her), I would like to see her go towards the direction of being single and just really focusing on her career, leading in the “A” mystery, and digging up family secrets, specifically Melissa, she seems to be avoiding that elephant in the room at all costs. Aria, I’m kinda over her and Ezra’s storyline. I actually skipped past a few of her scenes with him. I’m here for the connection between the two, I would like to see Aria writing herself, perhaps about the dollhouse experience and have her and Ezra connect through both of their writings. Idk, something about the storyline right now doesn’t interest me that much (i.e I would love to see this be addressed entirely). As for Emily, she seems to be getting it pretty bad. I’m so here for Emision but other than that, I’m enjoying Emily’s storyline. She’s been through a lot within the 5 year jump so to see how resilient and strong she’s becoming even after the egg situation has been very interesting to watch.
I’m still hoping we can get back to Lucas, Jenna, Wren, Melissa, Noal, NAT Club shadiness and figure out what all of that was about. I’m ready for the twin thing, at this point whoever has the twin to me would be plot-twisting but it would have to be someone we’d seen very frequent for it really leave an impact on me. Although I am secretly hoping there will be a Courtney (Alison’s twin - doubt they will do this due to Charles but I would love to see Ali play an evil character) or a Jenna twin, but I feel like that would be so blah cause shes barely in any episodes but Jenna has a huge role here. I’m also here for Sarah being Charles and Cece being Bethany. I’m 1000000% here for Ali waking up from her hibernation and not being conniving and manipulative but having that sassy and straight forward attitude and really getting into figuring out this whole is, but she is really broken so I don’t think that will ever happen.
I don’t know why but this is how I feel about them.
Spaleb
My most favorite! while watching them at first I was totally forgot that they are not a couple. The chemistry is so good. Maybe because of they are both smart that makes every conversation goes smoothly. When they’re working together it looks like two cops who are partners. Glad that they’re finally thinking the same.
Hanna-Jordan
My second favorite couple. It feels that after all of these complicated life. This is the person that she can settle down. Without thinking of things in the past.
Aria-Liam
Liam is soo cute. But I feel no chemistry between them. Maybe because Aria is very passionate one. So I think her relationship should be the one that full of memories and emotions. I can sense these things from only Ezra. The one and true love for her. Liam seems more like a guy friend or a fanboy. Nothing more than that.
Emily-Sabrina
I will not talk about Emison here. Because I thought the gay couple should be Emily and some outsiders not ali. Even though it was just a short conversation I feels that Embrina is such a cute ship.
Ali-Dr. Rollins
OMG I don’t have anything to say about them. They are so boring and seem so forced. Their relationship has no history and seeing some guy who was a doctor of sister is so awkward. This guy came out of nowhere and has nothing to do here.
After a ridiculously long introductory recap, the episode finally really starts. The girls are hanging out at Radley after the funeral. Aria is telling them that she’s leaving that day because she has to get back to work. Which Spencer points out that they all have going for them too. They have jobs to do. Then they see Sara Harvey, continuing to overstay what wasn’t even a welcome on this show. The girls are all suspicious of her. I would be suspicious too if I actually cared about Sara Harvey.
Aria is ready to go to the airport, so she hugs the girls and Hanna says she’ll walk her to her car. But Hanna has a motive for walking with her. She saw her leave the hotel room the night that Charlotte was killed and she wants to know where she went. Now, as it has been mentioned seasons before, Aria is the biggest liar of them all. So, true to form, she blatantly lies to Hanna and says she just went to her car or something. But Hanna doesn’t really want to let it go because if something did happen, she feels they need to know. But she’s not getting that info from Aria.
Spencer comes home to see Caleb and her mom looking at something online. It seems that some people are trying to link the campaign to suspicions about Spencer. Which, I mean, of course. It’s so interesting seeing how comfortable Caleb is with the rest of this family. And Spencer tells him that she’s happy he’s there. Same here, Spencer.
Ali is at the police station, waiting in a room to talk to Lorenzo. She’s sitting alone looking through the window when she sees Sara Harvey. And Sara sees Alison. They look at each other. I guess Sara is supposed to look threatening or like intimidating – the actress has two expressions so it’s really hard to tell. Sara moves on and Lorenzo comes in.
Lorenzo tells her that Sara is going to be off the suspect list because she couldn’t have killed Charlotte due to the burn injuries on her hands. So that’s the Sara “thing” – and here I thought we wouldn’t know for another fifteen episodes. He asks her if she thinks any of her friends could have something to do with it; Ali says no. We know that won’t stick.
Hanna’s fiancé comes to surprise her since she’ll have to stay until the police are okay with her leaving. His name is Jordan, he’s handsome, he’s British, and he seems pretty nice. He has news about where their wedding venue and says his mom’s lawyer will be coming to accompany her to the police station when she’s called in. It just feels like a lot of filler.
Emily is getting some health treatment and is cautioned about traveling back and forth while getting treatments because it’s easier to get it all done in the same place. Then when she’s leaving, she can’t get her card to work in the ATM. Some girl who recognizes her uses her card and just gives her the cash. Emily wants to pay her back, but she says not to worry about it. Later on she sees the girl at The Brew and she asks her not to tell anyone about seeing her outside of the medical center. The girl mentions what I was thinking – “Who would she tell?” She then tells Emily about going through cancer and trying to keep it hidden, but how it was better saying that and getting the support. It was a very sweet story that Emily decides to ignore the message of.
Before getting to the airport, Aria decides to pay a visit to her emotionally unstable ex-boyfriend so she can make things more complicated for him. She’s all like, “That night when Charlotte died? Yeah, we never saw each other, or spoke, or anything.” It’s not sketchy at all. Ezra’s like, “alright Aria” and then she just walks away. Like, he already has to deal with a lot; he doesn’t need her stupidity on top of that.
So Aria gets back to Boston and goes to her nice unrealistic job and she kisses her co-worker Liam. Liam who she is dating in secret because that’s her kink. Then Liam asks how Ezra is doing and Aria tells him that Ezra is thinking of giving back the advance.
After a work meeting, Aria and Liam go to tell the boss what the deal is with Ezra and the boss basically thinks Aria is the problem. It’s Aria – not the fact that his girlfriend was kidnapped and murdered. So the boss tells Liam to take over. Since Aria was psychologically tortured for years, she thinks it’s some conspiracy where the boss knows they’re dating and is trying to punish them. She asks Liam to let her try again before he takes over.
Meanwhile Spencer is freaking out about the cops finding some paper she wrote about a murder that was committed in the same way that Charlotte was killed. Which Caleb tells her she is being really paranoid about; which she is, but can we blame her.
Ali wants all available people to come to dinner at her house. So everyone sans Aria goes to her house. It’s obviously an awkward and uncomfortable time because no one actually wants to be there. Plus Hanna brought Jordan while Spencer brought Caleb.
So Jordan meets Caleb and then Caleb goes off to look for wine glasses, leaving Jordan to talk to Spencer. Even though Jordan doesn’t outright say it, even he can tell there’s something going on with Caleb and Spencer. She tells him about how they saw each other randomly in Madrid and just got to talking and hanging out and such.
Elsewhere, Hanna and Caleb run into each other, looking for wine-related materials. Caleb tells her that Jordan seems nice and congratulates her on the engagement. She thanks him and tells him that when he left for Europe she was just focusing on the job, not looking for another relationship. He says it's okay and that she seems happy. She says she is. So I guess that’s them giving us the story on what happened; he went to backpack around Europe and she met someone else and they drifted apart. How anti-climactic. Let’s get to the awkward dinner table.
Everyone basically just got seated when Ali gets a call from Lorenzo; he tells her that the time of Charlotte’s death was about 4 a.m. Ali shares this with the others and then is like, “Okay, let’s say grace.” So they hold hands and Ali gives this passive-aggressive prayer that’s a thinly-veiled accusation of the girls murdering Charlotte and that she hopes the responsible party is caught.
So Spencer goes to talk to Hanna like, “Did you hear that shit? Does she think we’re the ones who did it?” And Hanna’s like, “Eh, that was probably more about Aria.” She shares that Aria left the hotel the night of Charlotte’s murder. So Spencer is like, “Um, your mom is the manager of said hotel, so can you look at the footage?” And Hanna says, “It’s not high school anymore Spencer, I don’t do that stuff.”
After everyone leaves, Ali calls Lorenzo. We all know where this is going.
Emily goes to The Brew with her mom and she gets a calendar reminder on her phone about an appointment at Hollis. Her mom sees the reminder and asks what that’s about. Word of caution – when you’re trying to hide something from people, maybe don’t put your phone in clear view; this is very basic. So Emily lies and says that she’s thinking about grad school, prompting excitement from her mom. Her mom thinks it’s a great idea and tells her that if she’s worried about the money she shouldn’t be because a good deal of what her father left should help. Emily uncomfortably turns away and sees Aria walking upstairs to Ezra’s apartment.
Ezra opens his door, super confused to see Aria. She tells him that she flew back because she wants to talk about the book in person; they aren’t taking back the advance. He tells her that they’re gonna be disappointed because the follow up sucks. But he knows Aria isn’t going to let up so he lets her take the flash drive that has some book info. She asks him where he went after the hotel; he tells her, “Home Aria. I went home.”
At her home, Spencer is taking to Caleb, who’s setting up the couch so he can sleep and such. They’re reminiscing about their time in Madrid and Caleb says the time that they spent together was his best night in Europe; Spencer says it was her’s too. Then Caleb tells her that Veronica asked him to stick around to help with the campaign and Spencer tells her that she thinks that’s a good idea. The moment is interrupted by a text from Hanna.
It appears Hanna’s resolve to not sneak around and look at things was short lived because she’s going through the security footage with Spencer and Emily. They see Aria leave with Ezra and come back alone, after the time of the murder. Emily tells them that Aria is back in town. They decide to talk to her because we haven’t had our requisite confrontation this episode.
The girls show up, immediately confronting Aria. Flashback! Aria couldn’t sleep and decided to tell Ezra, who then went to meet with her at the hotel to hang out. [I feel like this is a good time to mention that Aria’s current boyfriend does not know that she dated Ezra; he knows that Ezra was her teacher, but she conveniently left out the rest.] So anyway, Aria can’t sleep because she keeps thinking about how the judge let Charlotte go even though she was honest. They end up leaving and Aria is upset that everything is closed and eventually decides that she should probably head back. Suddenly! Aria sees Ali’s car, but the person who gets out appears to be Charlotte. Neither of them are particularly happy to see her and Ezra gets super angry thinking about how they can live in a world where people like her can just walk free while innocent people like Nicole get hurt. Aria’s like, “Dude, calm down,” and he’s like, “Yeah, you should head back.”
In the present, Aria tells them that she thinks Ezra was lying about going home. Spencer doesn’t think it’s a leap that he did it and she even thinks that she may have told him how to do it. Let’s unpack something for a minute – Spencer doesn’t think it’s a leap; however, Spencer is notorious for jumping to extreme conclusions about people and having the others bandwagon after her.
Okay, so, story time: Ezra was on his book tour, trying to figure out what to write next and was thinking of a murder mystery. She had just finished her paper about the murder. They think he copied that murder to protect Aria; so Aria says the hotel video footage should go away.
Let’s tie up the loose ends of our storylines this episode! Spencer shows her mom the paper she wrote and her mom is unconcerned about it. Aria sees that the information on Ezra’s flash drive contains news information about Nicole dying, including pictures of her alive and dead (which is really sad to think about). Ali tells Lorenzo that he wants to change her answer – she doesn’t trust that her friends had nothing to do with the murder. Emily goes to her father's grave and talks about how she did badly in school and lost her scholarship after his death and how she never did tell her mom about any of it. She cries and says she's fixing things. She hears a noise - Sara was there.
Last scene. Flowers left at a grave followed by a driver opening a door saying, "I'm sorry for your loss," to an unknown person. Presumably Sara since she was at the cemetery, though that’s probably a misdirect.
Best line before the credits: ‘She might not be able to cut her own meat but she can still type a text’ - Emily. The girls decide to contact the anonymous texter
Ali is with Dr.Rollins at his family farm in East Pennsylvania, a dairy farm.
Ali said she saw Byron the night CeCe went missing, remember how random that info was? Murder weapon was a 9 iron golf club?
Aria is superspazerella
“I was thinking of taking a drive to see Toby” - Caleb.
‘With Jordan I don’t spin and I don’t twirl, he keeps me grounded”
So Toby is building a house for Yvonne..Caleb goes to see him. “Does it have to do with Hanna? Are you still holding onto that? “Actually I connected with someone a few years ago, “It’s Spencer”
Aria - The unblinkable. She is getting on my nerves, the spazzing is a notch too much. Ezra is missing a 9 iron golf club. He golfs? Teenagers hardly ever go there, why would Ezra golf?
The security company we use stores backups at some place called THE FARM. Aria breaks into Ezra’s apartment, not the first time she has done that. She touches EVERY single golf club in order to check if the 9 iron is missing. Spencer sees Toby pacing, engagement ring in hand, he quickly puts it away when he makes eye contact with her.
‘Ezra , I have to talk to you, about what you think you saw that night” - Voicemail Byron
“I used to mellow out with weed” - Sabrina. Aria could definitely use some mellowing.
Charlotte’s School for Stalkers’ - Spencer
Toby and Yvonne are not engaged but Yvonne very weirdly hugs Spencer upon meeting her for the first time. Too friendly. Weird.
Byron hangs up on Aria.He says “I think she knows” to an unknown person in the car with him.Aria flashes back to Byron and Ella arguing about Charlotte, Ella is in camp forgiveness, Byron is in camp let her rot in prison forever.
Aria forgot to return the stolen key to Ezra’s apartment. Emily goes to return it with ZERO stealth and gets caught.
The backup footage was lost by the security company.
Caleb tracks the texts. An unlocked storage unit. Another barrel. Black hoodies and gloves, and the phone they tracked with a message - “I don’t lurk in the shadows I hide in plain sight”
Can I just say..Alison.
Aria checks Byron’s golf clubs, TOUCHES each club, and counts out loud even though the damn numbers are so clearly marked. BOOM. He is missing a 9 iron.
When Ashley pulled out the scotch instead of the wine I knew shit was about to go very very south. Oh Damn. Mamma-Freakin-Marin is a badass. She probably didn’t have to look that hard.
“But it’s temporary right? You are eventually going back to D.C?” - Toby
Byron calls Aria to meet secretly.
No one questions the weirdo in the mask all over Rosewood? Why would they? My guess is..Alison. She is spying on the girls. She does not believe them, and she has smoked people out via texts before, remember she went missing? She texted everyone she knew trying to figure out if they were her tormentor. Overall..meh.
