A day in the life of a YA fantasy novelist.
I am restructuring the entire body of TSOTC, the main novel.
It was plagued with serious mary-suedom and a lack of creative introductory material, so I cut all that out.
WBH, my main lady, is in the think-tank right now undergoing a metamorphosis. I am NOT going to be giving up her fucking bad-ass mary-sue looks, because there are plot reasons for such. And they make sense. I will be, however, reviewing her biology, genetics, and the species split of her genetic make-up. Plus her psychological make-up, because there are things that must be looked over.
So the idea right now is that the school, Shining Silver School of the Endeavors, is the largest supplier of infantry soldiers to Camp Perspective, which is the largest rebel (that will be renamed in time, there are too many rebels) encampment. SSSE is in a sort of human trafficking mode, where it sends out student scouts to schools to find the dregs of society. These dregs are tested for use to the cause, and those who aren't useful are filtered out. The rest then are passed systematically undernieth the cavern ceiling of the portal palace (may also be renamed okay I thought that up while watching sherlock) to be examined by Excalibur, in a sort of faux-anvil test. Excalibur is looking for a certain mix of strengths in a possible wielder, and the magical community needs this wielder because Excalibur is the only weapon said to be strong enough to take out the leader of the bad guys, the Grim army. So it's basically circumstance, luck, and genetics that gets WBH chosen. Although the luck part is curious, since the politics of this world are very complex and a large chunk of the Atlantic Races seems to want her out of the picture.
So basically SSSE has an assembly line set up to find a modern day King Arthur.
Or that is the idea at the moment.
