Big Bang Plot Anxiety
Okay, suddenly and for no apparent reason getting anxious about my plot and just would like some reassurance that people would be interested in reading what I have in mind.
So, a non-spoilery summary:
I think for the purposes of this fic, we just shift everyone in the Gaunt family up by fifty or so years, so that Tom is only a few (probably 3 or 4, haven't narrowed that down yet) years older than Harry.
Marvolo Gaunt lives after being released from Azkaban. Long enough to see his son released from prison. Long enough to discover that his daughter, Merope, had a son. Given that Morfin is sterile, and Marvolo can’t have any more children as a side effect of one of the curses during their arrest, that makes this his only chance at an heir. So, Marvolo essentially kidnaps him from the orphanage. No one really cares. Including Tom, at first.
However, given that Tom is a halfblood, and Morfin and Marvolo are major bigots, living with his relatives doesn’t go well for him. His “lessons” on being heir are far from pleasant. Tom, obviously, gets fed up with his treatment. He runs away. And runs right into Harry.
Harry helps him, because his parents raised him right. Harry is in the process of getting Tom help when Morfin, pursuing Tom, catches up with them. He panics and grabs them both.
So, just Harry and Tom in captivity together, and the impact that has on both of them, both before and after their escape/rescue. Originally I was planning on including Lily and James' perspective of what it's like to have their only child kidnapped, and what it's like looking for him, but I fear that will make the fic way to long to be manageable in this time frame, so that might have to end up being a separate story if people are interested.
